A 403 means a request was refused somewhere in the capture path—but it does not, by itself, show whether Make, a screenshot provider, or the destination website refused it. First identify which Make module produced the error and inspect that module’s response. Then check its credentials and request settings, and confirm that the target site permits the request.
Find out which part of the workflow returned 403
Open the failed Make scenario run and identify the module marked as failed. Inspect its output and error details, including any response body or headers shown. A status code alone is not enough to locate the cause: a 403 may come from Make’s HTTP request, a screenshot integration, or the website being captured.
Make’s error guidance discusses HTTP 401 and 403 in connection with AccountValidationError, but that does not establish that every 403 in a screenshot workflow is a Make account or credential problem. Start with the actual failing module rather than changing credentials at random. See Make’s error and warning guidance.
How to troubleshoot the 403
- Check the failed module and response. Determine whether the failure is from Make’s HTTP app, GetScreenshot, Anchor Browser Agent, or another connected app. Record the requested URL and inspect the returned status and response details, if available.
- If it is Make’s HTTP module, check the request configuration. Review the authentication method and credentials, configured headers, cookies, and redirect behavior. Make’s HTTP app documents these request controls at its HTTP app documentation.
- Check how the scenario handles unsuccessful HTTP responses. The HTTP module’s “Return error if HTTP request fails” setting determines whether a 4xx or 5xx response stops the scenario. Changing this setting affects scenario behavior; it does not make a website authorize a request that it refused. See Make’s HTTP app documentation for this setting.
- If it is GetScreenshot, verify its connection. Make’s GetScreenshot documentation says the integration requires an active GetScreenshot account and API key. Confirm that the connection uses current, valid credentials: GetScreenshot app documentation.
- Check whether the website allows the capture. A destination site can deny access under its own rules. Use an authorized access path and follow the site’s requirements. The available error details and documentation do not identify a particular site-specific restriction or show that a Make setting will resolve one.
Could another capture integration help?
Make documents GetScreenshot actions for capturing webpages and page elements, and an Anchor Browser Agent action that takes a webpage screenshot using Chromium. These are different documented workflows, not a promise that a restricted page will become accessible. The target website still needs to allow the request. See GetScreenshot’s Make documentation and Anchor Browser Agent’s Make documentation.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming every 403 means expired credentials: check which module returned the status before changing a connection.
- Treating error handling as access control: whether Make stops on a failed HTTP response does not change the destination’s decision.
- Switching capture tools to bypass a refusal: another integration is not a documented workaround for a site’s access restrictions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a 403 mean Make itself blocked the screenshot?
Not necessarily. The status can come from Make, the screenshot provider, or the destination website. Identify the failed module and inspect its response to narrow it down.
Will changing the HTTP error setting fix the 403?
No. It controls whether Make stops the scenario after an HTTP 4xx or 5xx response; it does not grant permission to access the target page.
