A missing LangGraph trace in LangSmith can mean several different things: tracing was never enabled, the graph process did not receive its credentials, the trace was filed somewhere else, or the run started but its final event never arrived. First identify which symptom you have; each points to a different fix.
Start with the symptom
Use the trace’s status and location to choose a troubleshooting branch before changing configuration.

| What you see | Likely cause | First check |
|---|---|---|
| No trace anywhere | Tracing, credentials, endpoint, or runtime environment is misconfigured. | Check the graph worker’s tracing setting, API key presence, endpoint, and environment propagation. See the LangSmith Python SDK README, the LangChain tracing guide, and LangChain sandbox guidance. |
| A trace row exists, but it is incomplete | The final event did not reach LangSmith or the run did not finish cleanly. | Check shutdown timing, completion signals, step end times, network connectivity, and tracer submission. See LangChain Support’s explanation of incomplete traces. |
| The run is missing from the project you opened | It may be in another project or workspace, or attached to evaluation examples. | Check the configured project and, for evaluation runs, the dataset’s linked traces. See the SDK README and evaluation concepts. |
| RemoteGraph client and server appear as separate rows | The distributed trace context may not be joined. | Check client-side distributed tracing, SDK compatibility, and server-side parent context. See LangChain Support’s RemoteGraph guidance. |
| Agent Server tracing differs from a local run | Tracing behavior depends on deployment mode and destination configuration. | Check whether the deployment is Cloud, Hybrid, or Self-Hosted. See the Agent Server data-plane documentation. |
Check tracing, credentials, and project settings
For LangSmith tracing through the documented Python SDK integration, verify that the process running the graph has tracing enabled, a usable API key, and the right endpoint. The SDK README documents LANGSMITH_TRACING=true and the API-key and endpoint settings; the integration guide likewise requires a LangSmith API key and enabled tracing for automatic model-call tracing. Never print an API key to logs or expose it while diagnosing.

If your account uses a non-default region or a self-hosted LangSmith installation, compare the application endpoint with the endpoint for that account or installation. The SDK README illustrates hosted US and EU endpoints, but does not provide a complete endpoint matrix for every deployment type.
Verify the environment where the graph actually runs
A setting in your terminal or deployment host does not prove that a container, serverless worker, subprocess, or sandbox inherited it. Inspect the environment from inside the process or command that invokes the graph, taking care not to reveal secret values.

LangChain’s sandbox guidance passes tracing variables into the environment of sandbox.run() and flushes the client before exit. Apply the same principle to your runtime: the graph worker must receive the tracing configuration and credentials, not merely the process that launches it.
Fix traces that remain incomplete
LangChain Support defines an incomplete trace as one for which the server did not successfully receive the trace’s end event. A run can therefore appear in LangSmith but lack a completed status or full-run timing.

- Professional AI & Creator Workstation: AMD Radeon AI PRO R9700 GPU with 32GB GDDR6 is engineered for AI development, professional content creation, and compute-intensive workloads.
- Massive 32GB Memory Capacity: 32GB of GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit bus provides ample bandwidth for large AI models, 8K video editing, and complex 3D rendering.
- Advanced RDNA 4 with AI Accelerators: 64 Compute Units with 3rd Gen Ray Tracing and dedicated 2nd Gen AI Accelerators for groundbreaking AI performance and visual computing.
- Professional Blower Cooling: Efficient single blower design exhausts heat directly out of the chassis, ideal for multi-GPU workstation and server configurations.
- Enterprise-Grade Thermal Solution: Vapor chamber heatsink with industrial Honeywell PTM7950 thermal interface material ensures reliable cooling under sustained professional loads.
Support identifies several possible causes: the process exits before upload, the run does not send completion signals, one or more steps lack recorded end times, or network problems interrupt delivery. Check that the graph finishes cleanly and that the process remains alive long enough for tracer events to be submitted.
- Use an up-to-date LangSmith SDK, as LangChain Support recommends.
- For the applicable SDK guidance, call
wait_for_all_tracers()before program exit. - For sandbox code, the support example uses
langsmith.Client().flush()before exit.
These are remedies shown in different source-specific examples, not interchangeable calls guaranteed to work across every SDK and version. Use the one documented for your runtime and installed SDK.

Look in the right project or evaluation view
If tracing is active but the project run list is empty, confirm the project setting and the account or workspace you have open. With no LANGSMITH_PROJECT value, the SDK README says runs go to the default project.
Evaluation runs may not appear in the ordinary development project run list. LangChain Support says that traces produced by evaluate() or aevaluate() are attached to the evaluation dataset’s examples under Linked Traces. Open the relevant dataset examples and check that view before treating the run as absent.

Join RemoteGraph client and server traces
RemoteGraph crosses a client/server boundary, so separate rows can be expected when distributed tracing is not configured. LangChain Support’s article, dated December 18, 2025, specifies distributed_tracing=True for the client RemoteGraph, a LangSmith SDK version of langsmith >= 0.4.56, and server-side use of tracing_context(parent=...). Treat that minimum as the dated article’s requirement and verify it against your installed SDK and current guidance.
The same support guidance says to extract the parent trace and project from configurable context when passing metadata. The server must receive the expected parent context for its run to join the client’s distributed trace; otherwise, the client and server may remain separate rows.
Account for Agent Server deployment mode
Local SDK environment setup and Agent Server’s deployment defaults are separate considerations. The LangChain data-plane documentation describes the following behavior:
| Deployment mode | Tracing behavior documented by LangChain |
|---|---|
| Cloud | Automatically configured to trace to LangSmith. |
| Hybrid | Tracing can be disabled or sent to LangSmith SaaS. |
| Self-Hosted | Tracing can be disabled, sent to LangSmith SaaS, or sent to Self-Hosted LangSmith. |
Identify your deployment mode and inspect its tracing destination and settings before applying local-process fixes to an Agent Server run.
