Why Is YouTube Live Streaming Disabled After My Restriction Ended?

A restriction’s end date does not guarantee that YouTube live access is restored. Check verification, the 90-day eligibility window, Studio notices and the appeal route for your specific enforcement.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If YouTube live streaming is still disabled after the restriction’s stated end date, check the current notice in YouTube Studio rather than assuming the account is automatically eligible again. YouTube’s published eligibility rules require a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days; a restriction ending does not by itself confirm that every requirement is met or that another restriction is not active.

Why can’t I go live after the restriction ended?

The end date may apply to one penalty, while live-stream eligibility is assessed separately. YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions during the previous 90 days to stream. Other restrictions may also be temporary or permanent, and the account-specific notice identifies the reason that applies to your channel. YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance and restriction guidance describe these conditions.

  • The 90-day eligibility lookback: YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility page requires no live-stream restrictions in the past 90 days. This is a separate eligibility check, not necessarily the end date of the penalty shown in an earlier notice.
  • A live-stream strike: YouTube says a strike associated with a restricted live stream prevents live streaming for 14 days. Follow the dates in your notice; do not assume this period is interchangeable with the 90-day eligibility lookback.
  • Other enforcement: Live access can be turned off temporarily or permanently. YouTube lists Community Guidelines strikes or live removals, matching another copyrighted live broadcast, live-stream copyright strikes, some minor-safety violations, repeated policy issues, and other policy conditions. A significant number of videos with features disabled may also affect live access.
  • Separate general strike rules: YouTube’s Community Guidelines strike basics page describes a one-week publishing penalty for a first strike and a two-week penalty for a second strike received within the same 90-day period. These general publishing penalties are not the same as the 14-day live-stream block or the live-stream eligibility lookback.

Check your channel status in this order

  1. Open YouTube Studio and inspect the current notice. Review the channel’s policy or feature notices and identify which live feature is disabled. Match it to the stated enforcement reason rather than relying only on an old end date.
  2. Confirm basic live-stream eligibility. Check that the channel is verified and consider whether it has had a live-stream restriction within the preceding 90 days. YouTube’s current setup guidance also says creators must be at least 16.
  3. Read the email and Studio notice closely. YouTube says it sends a notification when live access is restricted. Note the reason, effective dates, and any appeal instructions; the notice is the relevant account-specific guide.
  4. Use the remedy for the stated policy category. If the decision appears mistaken, follow the appeal route given in the notice. For a Community Guidelines warning or strike, YouTube documents the route YouTube Studio → Channel violations → Appeal.
  5. Do not delete affected content before considering an appeal. YouTube says deleting a video does not remove a Community Guidelines strike and makes a later appeal unavailable. Copyright enforcement has a distinct resolution path, so use the instructions for that specific notice rather than assuming the Community Guidelines form applies.
  6. Wait if the restriction is still active. Do not try to go live through another channel while an active restriction applies.

How to appeal a Community Guidelines strike

YouTube’s appeal instructions say a Community Guidelines warning or strike may be appealed within six months. In YouTube Studio, open Channel violations, find the relevant notice, and choose Appeal if that option is available. Review the notice and submit the appeal through that route. YouTube’s appeal guidance warns that deleting the affected video will not clear the strike and will prevent a later appeal.

Not every live-stream restriction uses the same appeal process. For copyright matters or another restriction type, follow the reason-specific instructions in the notice. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not establish that every kind of restriction can be appealed through the Community Guidelines strike form.

Do not bypass an active restriction

YouTube classifies live streaming through another channel while restricted as circumvention. Its restriction guidance warns that bypassing a restriction may result in account termination. Wait until the restriction is no longer active and use the account’s stated appeal or resolution process; moving the stream to another channel is not a safe workaround.

Quick diagnosis by what you see

What the notice or status indicates What to check or do
A live-stream restriction still shows as active Follow the end date and instructions in the current notice. Do not stream through another channel while it is active.
The restriction ended, but the channel had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days Check the 90-day eligibility condition and the account’s current Studio status before trying again.
The channel is not verified Complete channel verification, which YouTube lists as a live-streaming requirement.
The notice concerns a Community Guidelines warning or strike Check Studio → Channel violations for the appeal option. Consider an appeal before deleting the affected video.
The notice concerns copyright or another policy category Use the resolution route named in that notice; do not assume the Community Guidelines appeal form applies.
No current restriction is clear in Studio Re-read the email and Studio notices and compare the channel’s current status with YouTube’s eligibility requirements. Only the account’s current notices and status can establish the cause.

What the different time periods mean

YouTube’s published pages describe three clocks that are easy to confuse. The 90-day period is the lookback for live-stream eligibility. The 14-day period is the live-stream block YouTube describes when a restricted live stream results in a strike. The general Community Guidelines strike page separately describes one-week and two-week publishing penalties and a 90-day strike duration. Check which policy and dates your notice actually names; these periods are not interchangeable.

Keep a 24/7 stream running only after access is restored

A streaming service cannot restore live access or override an active YouTube restriction. Once your channel is eligible and YouTube permits it to stream again, StreamNeo can keep an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube from the cloud: upload your recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home internet connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo handles uploaded videos, not camera streams. See StreamNeo for details.

Or let it run in the cloud

Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams what you upload, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it does not re-encode or use quality tiers. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
