If Safari won’t load pages or keeps quitting on your iPhone, first check whether the problem follows your Wi‑Fi connection or affects Safari on every network. Try another network and restart the phone before changing Safari data or privacy settings. These steps help distinguish a connection problem from a browser setting or a failure limited to one website.
First, check whether the problem is your network

Try opening a familiar website using cellular data. If cellular data isn’t available, connect to a different Wi‑Fi network.

If the page works on the alternate connection, investigate the original Wi‑Fi network or its configuration rather than treating it as a Safari-wide failure.

If a VPN is on, check its settings and test without it if appropriate. Apple Support notes that “some apps or websites may block content from being loaded” when a VPN is on. Apple’s Safari troubleshooting steps include checking this possibility.

If the same problem occurs on different connections, continue with the iPhone and Safari checks below.
Restart the iPhone
Turn the iPhone off, turn it back on, and try Safari again. Apple includes restarting as a step for both pages that won’t load and Safari that quits unexpectedly. If the issue remains, check Safari’s stored website data.

Clear Safari data only if the simpler checks fail
Apple’s current Settings path is Settings > Apps > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. Choose the timeframe shown and confirm. This removes Safari history and website data, including cookies and permissions you granted sites for features such as location or notifications. You may need to sign in to websites again. Clearing history does not change AutoFill information, and it does not erase histories held by websites themselves or by other apps. The clear-history button may be unavailable if there is no data to clear or Screen Time web-content restrictions need attention. Blocking all cookies is a separate setting—not a recommended loading fix. Apple warns that blocking all cookies can prevent sign-in and make some website features unavailable.
Make sure JavaScript is enabled
Go to Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced > JavaScript and turn it on if it is off. Some pages depend on scripts for content or interactive features, but enabling JavaScript is not a guaranteed fix for every loading problem.

If just one website fails, test iCloud Private Relay
When Safari works elsewhere but one particular website or page does not, Apple advises checking iCloud Private Relay. Temporarily turn it off in iCloud settings and retry the affected page. If the page then works, that points to an interaction with that site; it does not establish that Private Relay is generally broken.

If the affected site still does not work after these checks, contact the website’s developer, as Apple recommends.
When these steps don’t solve it
Settings labels and paths can change with iOS updates; the paths above reflect Apple’s instructions available on October 7, 2026. If Safari fails across multiple networks after a restart, data check, and JavaScript check, or if it continues to quit unexpectedly, consult Apple Support. If the failure is confined to one site, the site developer is the appropriate next contact.
