YouTube Live supports 4K for horizontal broadcasts; its Help documentation says 4K bitrate streaming is not supported for the vertical live feed in the YouTube app. The documentation does not identify an India-specific restriction, so a missing 4K option should not be blamed on India without more evidence. First pinpoint whether 2160p is missing from your encoder, the Live Control Room preview, or a viewer’s playback options: each points to a different part of the stream.
First identify where 4K disappears
“Not showing 4K” can describe three different problems. Check the stage where the resolution drops before changing settings:
- Encoder: You cannot select or send 2160p. Check the source resolution and encoder output configuration.
- Live Control Room: Your encoder appears to send 2160p, but the preview or stream health does not confirm it. Check the detected resolution, frame rate, and health messages.
- Viewer’s player: The live stream is running, but a viewer cannot select 2160p. Compare what viewers on other devices and networks see; this may be a playback-side issue rather than an ingest problem.
Also note whether the broadcast is horizontal or vertical and whether the viewer is using the YouTube app. YouTube’s overview of horizontal and vertical live streaming distinguishes 4K support for horizontal broadcasts from the vertical live feed in the YouTube app.
Check the format before changing encoder settings
If you are sending a vertical live feed through the YouTube app, that is the first thing to investigate: YouTube says that format does not support 4K bitrate streaming. For a horizontal broadcast, 4K is supported, but the encoder must actually send a 2160p signal. A source recorded in 4K does not by itself prove the outgoing live signal is 4K.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Verify the encoder’s actual output
YouTube says Live Control Room detects the encoder’s resolution and frame rate by default. Compare that detection with the output settings in your encoder. If you need to set the resolution manually, YouTube’s encoder settings guidance says to create a custom stream key and enable manual settings under Stream Resolution.
- In the encoder, check the outgoing resolution and frame rate—not just the source or canvas resolution. Confirm that the output is 2160p at the intended frame rate.
- Open the stream in Live Control Room and check the detected resolution and frame rate, preview, and stream health messages.
- If using manual resolution selection, use a custom stream key and enable manual settings under Stream Resolution. If your encoder’s output differs from Live Control Room’s detection, resolve that mismatch before troubleshooting viewer playback.
YouTube lists the following recommended 2160p bitrates. These are recommendations, not guarantees that a particular connection can sustain the stream:

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.

| Output | H.264 recommended bitrate | AV1/H.265 recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 2160p at 30 fps | 42 Mbps | 30 Mbps |
| 2160p at 60 fps | 50 Mbps | 35 Mbps |
The recommendations vary by codec. Consult YouTube’s current settings table for the chosen codec and frame rate rather than applying one bitrate to every setup. YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS with H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not over four seconds. For 2160p, low-latency optimization is unavailable and the stream is set to normal latency.
Check upload capacity and stream health
A 4K encoder setting cannot compensate for an unstable or undersized outbound connection. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend leaving 20% room above the total streaming bitrate. Use upload capacity, not download speed, for this check. Include primary and backup streams in the total if your setup sends both, and account for other people or devices using the same connection.

- Compare the encoder’s total outgoing bitrate with the upload bandwidth available during the stream, leaving the recommended headroom.
- Preview the stream before starting and monitor Live Control Room’s stream health and error messages while it runs.
- If encoder output looks healthy but the stream still has problems, investigate outbound internet connectivity. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking encoder output and CPU load.
Separate creator-side problems from viewer playback
YouTube says it transcodes live streams into multiple output formats so viewers on different devices and networks can watch. That does not mean every viewer will necessarily see the same quality option at the same time. Start with the evidence you can observe in Live Control Room, then compare reports from viewers:
| What you observe | Where to investigate next |
|---|---|
| Encoder output or Live Control Room shows a problem | Check resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, CPU load, stream health, and outbound connection. |
| One viewer cannot select 2160p, while other viewers can | Check that viewer’s device, player, and connection. |
| Several viewers on one shared network have the problem | Check that network’s available bandwidth and interruptions. |
| Viewers on separate networks report the same problem | Recheck the encoder output and Live Control Room evidence; the issue may originate with the stream rather than one viewer’s connection. |
Ask an affected viewer which device and YouTube app or browser they use, and whether the issue happens on another network. These details help distinguish a playback limitation from a creator-side ingest problem.

What can—and cannot—be concluded about India
The YouTube Help pages cited here describe general Live 4K support and the vertical-feed/app caveat; they do not establish an India-specific restriction or confirm device-by-device 4K playback availability in India. If your stream is horizontal and the encoder and Live Control Room show 2160p, do not infer an India-wide block from one viewer’s missing quality option. Narrow the case with the stream orientation, encoder resolution, codec, frame rate and bitrate, Live Control Room preview and health status, and the affected viewer’s device, app or browser, and network.
Or let it run in the cloud
