A blinking wireless charger can be charging normally, reporting a fault, or shutting down for protection—the light pattern has no universal meaning. Find the manual for the charger’s exact model before interpreting its color or blink rate. Then check placement, obstructions, phone compatibility, power, and heat in that order.
What does a blinking wireless-charger light mean?
It depends on the charger. A blinking light can indicate normal charging, an error, foreign-object detection, inadequate power, misalignment, or a protective shutdown. Even the same color can mean different things on different products, so do not apply one manufacturer’s blink code to another charger.

For example, Belkin says a blinking green light means charging on its F8M744 pad, while Xiaomi describes a blinking green light on its Mi 20W Wireless Charging Stand as an error and protection phase. Anker assigns different meanings to fast and slow flashing on particular indicators of its Qi2 A2544 model. These are model-specific examples, not a shared industry code.

How to troubleshoot a blinking wireless charger
- Identify the exact model. Check the label on the charger or its packaging, then consult that model’s official manual or support page for its LED-status meanings. Note the color, blink speed, and which indicator is flashing if the product has more than one.
- Clear the charging surface. Remove the phone and any coins, cards, metal plates, or other objects from the pad. Check the phone case for metal accessories, attachments, or thickness that could interfere with charging.
- Center a compatible phone on the pad. Confirm that the phone supports Qi wireless charging, then position it in the area specified by the charger’s instructions. A phone without wireless-charging support will not charge unless it has a compatible receiver accessory.
- Check the power supply. Use the adapter and cable supplied with the charger, or equipment specifically approved by its manufacturer. A computer USB port or an unsuitable adapter may not provide enough power for some models; there is no universal wattage requirement. Anker, for example, specifies a Quick Charge 2.0/3.0 or Power Delivery adapter rated at least 18 W for the slow-flash alert on its A2544. That requirement applies to this model, not to wireless chargers generally.
- Let hot equipment cool. If the phone or charger feels abnormally hot, stop charging and allow it to cool before trying again, following the product manual. Heat is one possible cause of a blinking alert, not an explanation for every blinking light.
- Follow the manufacturer’s next steps. If the light continues to blink, use only tests the manufacturer recommends with known-compatible equipment and contact the charger or phone manufacturer for support. Do not open or attempt to repair the charger unless its manufacturer explicitly provides that procedure.
How manufacturers describe blinking on specific chargers

When should you replace the charger or seek service?
If the manual’s troubleshooting steps do not resolve the alert, contact the charger or phone manufacturer. Huawei advises having its listed wireless chargers assessed by a service center if its troubleshooting does not fix the problem. A persistent blinking light alone does not establish which component has failed, so follow the manufacturer’s diagnosis before replacing equipment.

If you do need a replacement, check that the exact charger model is listed in the Wireless Power Consortium’s certified-product database, confirm compatibility with your phone, and verify the charger’s required input and supplied adapter. The WPC says Qi-certified products have passed independent laboratory testing for safety, interoperability, and energy efficiency, but also cautions that certification does not guarantee product safety. Charging speed and positioning depend on the specific charger and phone.
