Start by checking the actual HTTP response and request parameters; no single Screenshotlayer setting is documented as a universal fix.
1. Check the request URL and access key
Screenshotlayer requires an access_key and a target url. The target URL must include its protocol, such as https:// or http://. A missing protocol or incorrectly encoded URL can result in a request error rather than a screenshot. See the Screenshotlayer API documentation for its request requirements and error codes.

- Confirm the key is present, current and associated with the account you intend to use. Screenshotlayer says the key is available in the account dashboard and can be reset there.
- Pass a complete target URL and ensure query-string characters are URL-encoded by your HTTP client.
- Look for documented errors such as
missing_access_key,invalid_access_keyandinvalid_url.
Do not diagnose an image-rendering problem until you have ruled out a malformed request.

2. Inspect the response before displaying it
Screenshotlayer documents error responses with an error code, an internal error type and plain-text info that may suggest a fix. If your application saves or displays every response as an image, an API error body can appear as a broken or blank screenshot.

- Inspect the HTTP status, response headers and body in your client, server log or network inspector.
- If the body contains an API error, fix that error first instead of changing capture settings.
- Only pass a successful image response to the image display or file-saving path in your integration.
The exact handling depends on your client; Screenshotlayer’s cited documentation does not provide a complete guide for every programming language or framework.
3. Check your account allowance
The API specification lists error code 104 as usage_limit_reached. Check your account dashboard and the terms of your current plan if requests have stopped working. Screenshotlayer’s FAQ says it sends usage notifications at 75%, 90% and 100% of the monthly allowance and that overage fees apply after the allowance is reached. Those are vendor-described terms; confirm the details for your account rather than relying on an older plan example. See the Screenshotlayer FAQ.

4. Test capture timing and dimensions
A page that renders content after its initial load may be captured before that content appears. Screenshotlayer documents a delay parameter to wait before capture, a viewport setting for dimensions and fullpage for a full-height capture.
- Try a delay as a controlled test if the target page fills in after loading.
- Set a viewport that includes the content you expect to see; an unexpected viewport can make the result look empty or incomplete.
- Use
fullpagewhen you need the page’s full height rather than just the visible viewport.
These are documented controls to investigate, not vendor-confirmed guaranteed fixes for blank screenshots. Change one setting at a time so you can identify whether it affects the result.

5. Rule out a cached result
Screenshotlayer documents ttl and force cache parameters. Its API specification gives a default TTL of 2,592,000 seconds (30 days), and the FAQ says a lower custom TTL can be set. If the image may be old, check the cache configuration and test a fresh capture using the documented refresh option. The documentation does not identify caching as a common cause of blank images.
6. Confirm the format and client behavior
Screenshotlayer’s FAQ says PNG is the default format and also names JPEG and GIF as supported formats. Check the response’s actual content type and confirm that your application handles that format correctly. Make sure it is not suppressing an error body, assuming the wrong image type or otherwise misreading the response.

7. Test custom headers only when the target site calls for it
The FAQ says custom User-Agent and Accept-Language headers are supported. A target site can respond differently to different request headers, so a deliberate test may help isolate site-specific behavior. The documentation does not say that headers are a general cause of blank captures; change them only when you have a reason to suspect the target site’s response.

9. Escalate with useful evidence
If a valid request still produces a blank image, send support enough detail to distinguish an API failure from a target-page or client issue. Screenshotlayer’s FAQ says support can provide uptime reports on request, while public statistics are not offered. Its FAQ also reports uptime of “around 99.9%”; that is the vendor’s claim, not an independently verified statistic, and the page does not state a year.

- Timestamp and target URL
- Request parameters with access keys and other secrets redacted
- HTTP status, response headers and body
- Requested output format, viewport, delay and cache settings
- A comparison capture, if available
Never include your access key or secret key in a public post or support message that does not need it.
