Low-bass audio, a weak wireless link, or a model-specific setting can also explain the symptom. A subwoofer is designed for low frequencies, so a dialogue scene may produce little audible output even when it is working.
First, identify what “not loud enough” means
These symptoms point to different checks:
- Little bass impact: Check the source material and subwoofer-level setting.
- No apparent output during dialogue: Test with a passage containing deep bass; speech alone is not a reliable test of a subwoofer.
- Intermittent sound or no output: Check the wireless link, placement, and power before changing settings.
- The whole system is quiet: Raise the soundbar and connected device volume, then test again.
Samsung Australia notes that “the original volume of the content you are playing may be low.” Samsung Australia’s subwoofer troubleshooting guidance lists both source volume and subwoofer settings among the possible causes.

Test with content that can reveal bass
Play a known bass-rich movie or music passage at a moderate volume. Samsung South Africa’s guide for the HW-H550 and HW-H551 explains that the subwoofer handles low-frequency sounds, such as the rumble of an explosion, and recommends bass-rich content for checking it. That guide is specific to those models, but the diagnostic principle is useful: dialogue-heavy material may not contain much for the subwoofer to reproduce.

If the soundbar and subwoofer both seem quiet, check the volume on the soundbar and the connected source device before concluding that the subwoofer is at fault.

Raise the subwoofer level using your model’s controls
Use the soundbar remote’s woofer or subwoofer-level control if your model provides one. Samsung documentation uses different labels and procedures: some models use WOOFER, while others refer to S/W LEVEL. Examples in Samsung guidance include adjustment ranges of −6 to +6 and steps labeled SW+1 through SW+6; neither range should be assumed to apply to every soundbar.
- Find the exact soundbar model number on the unit or in its settings.
- Open the manual for that model and locate the subwoofer or woofer-level instructions.
- Use the specified remote control button or menu to raise the level a few steps, then replay the same bass-rich passage.
If the remote labels or available controls do not match, do not guess at another model’s button sequence. Samsung directs users to consult the manual for their specific model. Samsung South Africa’s HW-H550/HW-H551 instructions illustrate one model-specific approach; Samsung’s soundbar support guidance also emphasizes checking the model manual.

Check the wireless link and subwoofer placement
A weak or disrupted wireless connection can cause intermittent sound or no output. Check the indicator on the rear of the subwoofer. Samsung Singapore describes a solid blue LINK light as connected; a blinking blue light or solid red light indicates that reconnection may be needed. - Move the subwoofer closer to the soundbar and test again.
- Clear obstructions between the units where practical.
- Move nearby devices that may cause radio interference and check whether the connection improves.
Samsung Australia recommends trying a position within 3 metres when the subwoofer signal may be weak. Treat this as a troubleshooting test, not a rule that the subwoofer must always remain within that distance. Follow the connection instructions for your soundbar model.

Check power and reconnect before resetting
If there is no sound, check that the relevant power and connection points are secure. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance includes removing and reconnecting power and, where appropriate, initializing or resetting the system. Reset procedures vary by model, so use the instructions in the exact soundbar manual rather than borrowing a sequence from another unit.
- Check the subwoofer’s power connection and any relevant soundbar connections.
- Remove and reconnect power as directed by the model’s support instructions.
- Recheck the subwoofer indicator and test with bass-rich content.
- Use a reset or initialization procedure only if the instructions for your model call for it.
When to contact Samsung support
Contact Samsung support if the indicator remains abnormal, the subwoofer still produces no output, or bass remains unusually low after checking the source, level, placement, and connection. Have the soundbar model number and the observed LED state ready. The available troubleshooting guidance does not establish one universal failure threshold, so these symptoms alone cannot determine whether a particular unit needs repair or replacement.

Should you add or replace a subwoofer?
Consider a replacement only after checking the settings and connection, and confirming that the subwoofer itself is the issue. Compatibility depends on the exact soundbar model; the existence of a Samsung wireless subwoofer such as the SWA-W510 does not establish that it works with every Samsung soundbar. Check the manual or Samsung support for your soundbar before buying a separate unit. Samsung’s SWA-W510 product page identifies the product, while the model-specific soundbar manual is the place to verify compatibility.
Your practical options are to correct the level setting, reposition or reconnect the current subwoofer, seek model-specific service, or consider a compatible replacement. The right next step depends on whether the problem is low bass or a connection failure, whether the basic checks help, and the service or replacement options available for your model and location.
