A newly installed Samsung washer that shakes hard is most often dealing with an installation issue or an unbalanced load—not necessarily a failed part. On a new front-load model, check first that the shipping bolts have been removed; then check that the washer is level, stable and clear of nearby surfaces. A small amount of movement while the washer senses a load can be normal, but persistent or forceful shaking needs troubleshooting.
Why is my new Samsung washer shaking?
Start with the checks that matter most on a newly installed machine: shipping bolts on a front-loader, a firm and level installation, and a balanced load. Samsung says its washing machines may shake, move and make noise while spinning. That does not mean every degree of movement is harmless: repeated banging, walking across the floor or strong vibration calls for a check of the setup and load.

Front-load Samsung washers use shipping bolts to hold the drum in place during transport; top-load washers do not use them. If bolts are left installed, the drum cannot move as intended during operation and the washer may shake severely.

Samsung suggests opening the door and pressing the drum as a basic clue: it should have some spring-like give. If it feels nearly rigid, shipping bolts may still be installed. This is a diagnostic clue, not a guarantee; follow the manual for the specific model rather than forcing the machine away from the wall or removing unidentified hardware.
Samsung models may have three or four shipping bolts, while FlexWash models may have seven. If the manual confirms bolts remain, Samsung’s guidance is to loosen and remove each bolt with the supplied spanner, slide out its spacer, and cover the openings with the supplied plastic covers. How do I stop my new washer from moving?
Make sure the washer is stable and level
With the washer empty, gently rock it to see whether a corner lifts or the machine teeters. All feet should contact the floor, and the washer should feel stable. A firm, level floor is important; carpeting, slippery flooring, a damaged or flexible surface, or a pedestal that is not level can contribute to movement.

Samsung says shorter legs are generally more stable. On front-load models, its guidance is to loosen the locking nuts before adjusting the feet and tighten them afterward; it specifies a flat-blade screwdriver for this step. Top-load foot arrangements differ, so do not assume the same adjustment method applies.

Check clearance from the wall and dryer
Samsung recommends at least 1 inch of clearance between the washer and a dryer, and between the washer and nearby walls. Contact with another appliance or a wall can turn normal vibration into rattling or thumping. If the washer sits on a pedestal or riser, make sure that base is level before placing the washer on it; Samsung notes that a correctly leveled pedestal may still allow some vibration.

Why does my Samsung washer shake during spin?
Spin speed makes an uneven distribution of wet laundry more noticeable. A small load can collect on one side; sheets and blankets can tangle together, concentrating their wet weight. First pause the cycle if needed, then spread items around the drum. If one bulky item is causing the imbalance, follow the manual’s advice for that item rather than adding unrelated laundry automatically. Reducing spin speed may also help with a load that is difficult to balance.
Samsung’s US shaking guide gives examples of roughly 3–5 pounds for a small load and 6–16 pounds for a large load, describing them as approximately one-third and three-quarters full. A separate Samsung load-size page gives 3 pounds as a recommended minimum. These are Samsung’s guidance, not universal thresholds: capacity and suitable load size depend on the washer model. Test the washer after each correction
- Correct the installation or load. Remove confirmed shipping bolts, stabilize and level the washer, or redistribute the laundry as applicable.
- Run a test cycle. Samsung suggests a small load or a Rinse & Spin cycle as a way to check whether the shaking has improved.
- Use calibration only if the model supports it. Calibration controls and button combinations vary; some models do not have Calibration Mode. Follow the exact manual rather than treating any button sequence as universal. If the drum will not spin during a supported calibration procedure, request service.
When should I contact the installer or Samsung?
Contact the installer or seller about a new washer’s installation if the bolt, floor or leveling checks point to setup, especially if you are unsure how to move or adjust the appliance. Request Samsung service if strong vibration continues after the installation and load checks, or if a supported calibration procedure cannot complete. Avoid diagnosing an internal fault from vibration alone.
When you seek help, have the model number ready and describe whether it is front-load or top-load, whether the empty washer rocks, whether the drum has spring-like give, which cycle or load triggers the movement, and whether it sits on a pedestal or soft flooring.
