1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteA blurry mobile screenshot usually comes from one of three places: the page is being laid out in a viewport wider than the phone and scaled down, an image or canvas does not have enough source pixels for its displayed size, or the screenshot was captured or resized at too low a resolution. First compare the live page with the saved file; then check the affected content and the capture dimensions before changing code.
First find where the blur is introduced
Compare the live page on the phone with the screenshot file opened at its native pixel size. A screenshot shown enlarged in an image viewer can look soft even if its pixels are intact, so inspect it at 100% or its native size.

- Only the saved file is blurry: investigate the screenshot tool’s output dimensions, whether it captured the viewport or whole page, and any resizing or compression after capture.
- The live page and file are both blurry: determine whether the softness affects everything or only raster images, a canvas, or one transformed element.
- Text and vector graphics are crisp but a logo or photo is soft: the likely issue is that particular image source, not a global display-resolution setting.
This split matters because page rendering and screenshot export are separate stages. Increasing a capture’s dimensions will not restore detail missing from an image source, and replacing an image will not fix a screenshot that was later reduced.
Understand CSS pixels, device pixels, and DPR
CSS pixels are layout units; physical pixels are the display’s hardware pixels. window.devicePixelRatio (DPR) reports the relationship between physical pixels and CSS pixels. It commonly exceeds 2 on modern high-resolution mobile screens, but it is not the intrinsic resolution of an image or a guarantee that a screenshot file has a particular size. Page zoom can affect DPR; pinch zoom does not, according to MDN’s devicePixelRatio reference.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
For example, a CSS-sized element rendered on a display with DPR 3 may map each CSS pixel to roughly three physical pixels in each dimension. A bitmap with only one source pixel per CSS pixel may therefore need to be enlarged and can appear soft. The actual result also depends on browser rendering, image selection, zoom, and capture settings.
Check whether the viewport is shrinking the page
A mobile browser can lay out a page in a wider virtual viewport and scale the result down to fit the screen. Check the document’s viewport declaration. A common responsive setting is:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
MDN recommends width=device-width; Android Developers also recommends targeting the device width for mobile web layouts. The viewport controls layout behavior; it does not add missing pixels to a low-resolution image. If the page also overflows horizontally, fix that separately rather than relying on the browser to shrink the whole layout.

Inspect raster images at their rendered size
For a blurry photo, logo, or other bitmap, compare the image’s intrinsic pixel dimensions with the CSS dimensions at which the browser displays it. If the source is being enlarged for the screen density, supply a higher-resolution asset or an appropriate responsive density variant so the browser can select a source with enough pixels.
- Check the actual image source selected by the browser, not only the largest file in your project.
- Compare its intrinsic width and height with its rendered CSS width and height and the target display density.
- Do not apply a global resolution change when only one raster asset is soft; text and vector graphics may already be rendering sharply.
Android’s web-app guidance explains that images can be scaled up on higher-density displays, and MDN’s viewport reference discusses high-DPI bitmap images and higher-scale artwork.
Give a canvas a high-DPI backing store
A canvas has a CSS display size and a separate pixel backing store set by its width and height attributes. If the backing store is only as large as the CSS display size, the browser may stretch it across more physical pixels. Allocate the backing dimensions at the measured CSS size multiplied by DPR, then scale the drawing context so drawing coordinates can remain in CSS pixels:

const canvas = document.querySelector("canvas");
const rect = canvas.getBoundingClientRect();
const dpr = window.devicePixelRatio || 1;
canvas.width = Math.floor(rect.width * dpr);
canvas.height = Math.floor(rect.height * dpr);
const ctx = canvas.getContext("2d");
ctx.scale(dpr, dpr);
// Draw using CSS-pixel coordinates.
This is a pattern to adapt to the element’s actual measured size, not a guaranteed fix for every canvas. Redraw after changing the backing dimensions: resizing a canvas resets its drawing buffer and context state. If its CSS size or DPR changes, update the backing store and render again. See MDN’s DPR guidance and web.dev’s High DPI Canvas article.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteSeparate zoom, transforms, and device scale
Device scale, page pinch zoom, browser page zoom, and CSS or SVG transforms are distinct mechanisms. They can change what you see or how an element is rasterized without having the same effect on layout dimensions. MDN notes that page zoom affects DPR but pinch zoom does not. WebKit’s ScalesAndZooms reference explains that changing device scale need not change the layout viewport and distinguishes page scale from page zoom. Because browser behavior can differ, verify the actual target browser rather than assuming every platform handles scale identically.
Check screenshot capture dimensions separately
Record the page’s CSS viewport dimensions, DPR, and the exported file’s actual pixel width and height. Also note whether the image is a visible-viewport capture or a full-page capture and whether it was resized afterward. These comparisons help distinguish a rendering problem from an export problem.

In Chrome DevTools, turn on device mode, select mobile dimensions and a DPR, then use Capture screenshot for the visible area or Capture a full size screenshot for the whole page. The available capture controls are documented in Chrome’s device mode guide. Emulation is useful for diagnosis, but confirm the result on the real target device and browser when possible.
Troubleshoot common cases
- Everything looks reduced or soft on the phone: inspect the viewport declaration and horizontal overflow. A layout wider than the device may be scaled down to fit.
- Only an image is soft: check the source the browser selected and whether its intrinsic dimensions are sufficient for its rendered size and target density.
- Only canvas artwork is soft: compare its backing-store dimensions to its CSS dimensions, multiply the backing dimensions by DPR, scale the drawing context, and redraw after resizing.
- The live page is crisp but the file is soft: inspect the capture dimensions, capture mode, export format or settings, and any later resizing or compression.
- Results change with zoom: record browser zoom and DPR, and distinguish browser page zoom from pinch zoom and CSS transforms.
- Desktop emulation looks right but the phone does not: verify the viewport, browser, operating system, and device DPR on the actual target; emulation settings are not a substitute for checking that context.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a higher DPR guarantee a sharper screenshot file?
No. DPR describes the relationship between physical display pixels and CSS pixels; the exported file’s pixel dimensions depend on the capture method and any later resizing.
Should I multiply every image’s CSS width by devicePixelRatio?
No. Use an image source with enough intrinsic pixels for its rendered size and density; a global CSS-size change is not a substitute for selecting an appropriate asset.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Does this canvas pattern automatically handle DPR changes?
No. Re-measure and resize the backing store when the CSS dimensions or DPR change, then redraw the canvas.
