FeeKit is a browser calculator designed to estimate that deduction—or work backward from the payout you want to determine a charge that accounts for the selected fee model.
Why a quoted amount may not equal your payout
A $500 invoice does not necessarily put $500 in your account. Payment fees commonly combine a percentage of the transaction with a fixed per-transaction charge. The percentage grows with the transaction size; the fixed component applies regardless of that size.
That gap matters when you quote work, set a product price, or need a particular amount to land after processing. A calculation based only on the percentage can miss the fixed charge, while using a fee schedule for the wrong payment method or country can produce a misleading estimate.
What FeeKit calculates
FeeKit presents two ways to frame the same arithmetic: start with the gross charge and estimate the net, or start with a desired net payout and estimate the gross amount needed. According to FeeKit’s methodology page, its standard forward formula is:

Fee = gross amount × percentage rate + fixed fee
Net payout = gross amount − fee
In reverse mode, the calculator solves for a charge that is intended to leave the target amount after the selected deductions. That result depends on the selected rate and fee model; it is not a universal gross-up amount that applies to every processor, payment method, or transaction.
Rates depend on the transaction
Processor pricing varies by geography, payment method, account, and transaction circumstances. For example, Stripe’s official US pricing page lists 2.9% + 30¢ per successful domestic online card transaction. The page also lists additional charges of 0.5% for manually entered cards, 1.5% for international cards, and 1% when currency conversion is required. These are published US figures observed in 2026, not rates that should be assumed for another country, account, or payment type; check the pricing that applies to your Stripe account and transaction.

Cross-border work needs particular care: the client’s country and the currency in which funds are paid out are separate considerations. Payment processing and currency conversion can add distinct costs. A calculator’s result is only as useful as the inputs and rates chosen.
How to get a useful estimate
- Choose the direction. Start with the invoice or charge amount to estimate the payout, or enter the payout you want and calculate a gross charge.
- Select the processor and payment context. Match the service and payment method as closely as possible, including domestic or international circumstances where the calculator offers those choices.
- Check currency conversion. If the payment or payout involves conversion, account for the applicable conversion charge rather than treating the domestic rate as complete.
- Verify the applicable rate. Compare the selected figures with the processor’s current published pricing and your account-specific terms before relying on the estimate.
- Use the result as a processing-fee estimate. Do not treat it as a complete accounting of taxes, payout timing, refunds, foreign-exchange movements, or other deductions unless those items are explicitly included in the selected calculation.
What FeeKit says about its implementation
FeeKit says its calculations run in the browser using TypeScript and that it rounds explicitly to cents. Its methodology page describes support for domestic and cross-border commercial rates for Stripe, PayPal, Square, Venmo, Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy, and Authorize.Net. Those are FeeKit’s descriptions of its implementation and supported services; the calculator and every listed rate have not been independently verified here.

FeeKit’s methodology page states: “We do not transmit transaction values, invoice sums, or client revenue numbers to external APIs.” That is the publisher’s privacy claim, not an independent security audit. Readers with sensitive financial workflows should review the site’s own privacy information and decide what is appropriate for their use.

FeeKit is aimed at the practical gap between a client-facing price and the estimated amount left after selected processing fees. It can help make that arithmetic visible before you quote or invoice. It cannot establish which fee schedule applies to your particular account, and a calculator cannot replace checking processor terms when transaction details are unusual or the amount is consequential.
Compare services on the same basis: the same charge or target payout, payment method, domestic or cross-border context, currency conversion, percentage rate, and fixed fee. Do not infer that one processor is always cheaper from a comparison that changes those inputs.
