Shawn Welch built Zeltro because his vibe-coding projects kept falling apart between sessions. In his September 29, 2026 post on DEV Community, he describes a desktop “home base” that keeps each project’s setup, terminal, and AI agent in one place so he can pick work back up without rebuilding the environment first. The problem is easy to recognize. The product claims behind it are Welch’s own, and this article separates what he describes from what remains unverified.
The problem: folders, terminals, and half-finished apps
Welch runs a computer repair shop and builds apps on the side. His core complaint is about restarting work, not about writing code. In his words: “Most of my vibe coding turned into a mess of folders, terminals and half finished apps I couldn’t get running again a month later.”

The cost he names is time. Each time he returned to a project, he had to remember how to start it, which folder held the right files, which terminal was running what, and how the database was set up. Community threads ask the same question in different words, such as how people keep larger vibe-coded projects from slowly turning into a mess. Those threads show that the question is being asked, not how many people face it.

According to the post, Zeltro is meant to handle setup and agent work in a single desktop window. The sequence Welch describes looks like this:

- Describe the app you want to build in plain language.
- Review the suggested project setup and the reasoning the app gives for it.
- Work with an AI agent in an embedded terminal inside the app.
- Receive a notification when the agent finishes a task or needs your input.
The post does not walk through each step in detail, so the exact screens and options are best confirmed in the product itself.
What Zeltro claims about project structure
Each project gets its own address
Welch says every project receives its own address. The purpose is to avoid port conflicts, the common problem where two local development servers try to use the same port and one fails. Isolating addresses per project is the kind of detail that matters once you have several apps running at once, but the post does not explain how the addresses are assigned or what happens if a project runs services outside the app.

Projects share one database
Instead of setting up a database for every project, Zeltro lets projects share one database. Welch presents this as a way to reduce repeated setup. The post does not describe how data is separated between projects, how schemas are kept from colliding, or how backups work, so anyone with data-sensitive projects should check those points before relying on the shared arrangement.

The app prompts for API keys in a separate, private entry box rather than asking you to paste them into the agent conversation. That matters because keys pasted into chat can end up in logs or history. The post states the intent but does not document how keys are stored, whether they are encrypted, or what threat model the design assumes. No independent security review of the app is cited, so treat this as the author’s stated design, not a verified protection.

Which AI tools it supports and how access works
Welch names five options. The app does not sell AI access. You either use a key or plan you already have with a provider, or you use a free local model, and you pay the provider directly.

The table reflects only what Welch lists. He does not say whether all agents behave the same inside Zeltro, and he does not publish a comparison of their output.

Cost, release status, and beta credits
- Desktop app: described in the September 29, 2026 post as free for personal use.
- Command-line tool underneath: described as open source.
- Release stage: described as beta, with the author asking for testers.
- Beta offer: the post says some testers would receive US$5 to US$25 in AI credits. This is a one-time testing incentive as reported in the post, not a usage or market figure, and it may not apply to every tester.
Because the app is in beta and the post is dated September 29, 2026, check the current project page before assuming any of these terms still apply. As of this writing, that page is the only place to confirm live pricing, availability, and eligibility for credits.

- No independent security validation of the private API-key entry or the shared database.
- No hands-on test or benchmark of how the app performs with real projects.
- No comparison with other tools for running AI coding agents.
- No evidence about how well a project holds together over months of use, which is the exact problem Welch set out to solve.
Welch’s account is a sound description of a real workflow problem and a clear statement of intent. It is not proof that Zeltro solves that problem better than a well-organized folder structure, a notes file, or a project template.
How to judge it for your own projects
If you try Zeltro, these checks will show whether its claims hold up for your work:
- Isolation: run two projects that both default to the same port and confirm each gets its own address.
- Database: create tables with overlapping names in two projects and confirm they do not overwrite each other.
- Credentials: confirm a key entered in the private box does not appear in the agent chat or in any log you can view.
- Portability: confirm you can export or move a project out of the app and run it without Zeltro.
- Agent switching: confirm you can change agents on the same project without losing context.
- Cost: track your own provider bill for a month, since Zeltro does not bill for AI usage.
These checks test the claims Welch makes. They do not replace an independent review, and their results will depend on your projects and your setup.
