If the direct address opens to the right date, the saved link may contain a specific date. If the date is right but the layout is wrong, change the calendar view instead.
Is the date wrong, or is the calendar view wrong?
Google Calendar has two separate things that can look like the same problem: the date you are viewing and the layout used to display it. A dated link can open a particular day or month; the view selector changes whether you see Day, Week, Month, Year, Schedule, or 4 days. - Wrong date: The calendar is showing a past or future date. Click Today to return to the present.
- Wrong layout: The calendar shows a day, week, or schedule when you wanted a month. Choose the preferred layout from the desktop view selector.
Check whether your saved link contains a date
A bookmark, desktop shortcut, or browser startup page can preserve a specific date in its URL. One Google Calendar Help Community user, for example, reported a startup-page link ending in /r/customday/2026/6/12; removing the date from that saved link resolved that user’s issue. If the address includes a date-specific path, replace it with the base address calendar.google.com or create a fresh bookmark from that address.

Fix it in this order
- Test the base address. Open a new tab, type
calendar.google.cominto the address bar, and sign in if prompted. Do not use your usual bookmark for this test. - Compare the result. If Calendar opens to the date you expect, edit or replace the bookmark, desktop shortcut, or browser startup page you normally use. Look for a date embedded in its URL.
- Choose the layout. If the date is correct but the display is not, use the desktop view selector and choose Day, Week, Month, Year, Schedule, or 4 days. The choice becomes your default view until changed, according to Google’s desktop help.
- Return to today. If Calendar is still on the wrong date, click Today, then reopen it through the base address rather than the saved link.
- Test for a browser-specific issue. If the base address still behaves unexpectedly, try a private window or another browser. If that changes the result, check whether an extension or browser data such as cache or cookies may be affecting the page. These are troubleshooting checks, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Can you make Calendar always open to the current month?
Google’s desktop help documents how to change the view and navigate dates, but it does not describe a dedicated setting for choosing a fixed opening date. A Google Calendar Help Community answer says there is no setting to choose a specific start date; treat that as community guidance, not a universal statement for every device or platform. A separate Community answer recommends https://calendar.google.com/calendar/r/month to open Month view. That changes the view, not necessarily the date, so it is not a guaranteed fix for a stale date in a saved link. Google Calendar Help Community: Google calendar opens to the wrong date

The right next step depends on how you launch Calendar, the address it opens, and whether the problem occurs in another browser. The first useful distinction is whether the date itself is wrong or only the view.
