If a Google Calendar event seems too long or short, first check its saved start and end times. If those values are correct but the clock time differs across devices or attendees, check the event, calendar, and device time zones. A default event duration affects newly created events; it does not change the duration of an event already saved.
First determine whether the duration or the displayed time is wrong
An event’s duration is set by its start and end values. For example, an event from 2:00 to 3:00 is one hour long. If the event is one hour too long or short, inspect both values and their dates. If the duration looks right but the event appears at a different clock time on another device or for an invitee, investigate time zones instead.

Google says Calendar converts events to UTC and displays them in each viewer’s local time. An event can therefore show different clock times to people in different time zones while representing the same moment. Google also supports assigning separate time zones to an event’s start and end when needed. Google’s time-zone guidance explains how this works.

Correct the event’s saved start and end
- On a computer, open Google Calendar and select the event.
- Choose Edit. Inspect the start time, end time, start date, and end date. Check especially for an accidental end date on the following day or a time that crosses midnight unintentionally.
- Correct the values and save. Reopen the event to confirm the saved times and dates. Google’s instructions for creating an event on a computer cover editing and saving event details.
Check the event’s time zone
In the event editor, inspect its time-zone control and select the intended region. This matters especially for travel, remote meetings, and events created in a different time zone from the one you currently use. If the start and end are meant to use different zones, check that each has the intended zone rather than assuming one setting applies to both. See Google’s instructions for using Calendar in different time zones.

Change the default duration only if new events are affected
If newly created events repeatedly have the wrong length, review the default event duration. This setting determines the initial duration for new events; it does not establish that an already saved event has changed.
Android or iPhone and iPad
- Open Google Calendar and tap Menu → Settings → General.
- Tap Default event duration and choose the desired length.
Google documents these settings for Android and iPhone and iPad. Its Android help page notes that the default for non-Google accounts is one hour.
Computer
In Google Calendar, open Settings and review the general Event settings for the duration used when creating events. Google’s computer settings guide covers Calendar settings.

Compare Calendar’s time zone with your device’s
If an event looks different on mobile and web, or differs from what another attendee sees, compare the relevant time-zone settings rather than changing the event duration blindly.
- On mobile: In Google Calendar settings, check whether Use device time zone is enabled. If it is off, inspect the manually selected time zone. The Android and iOS settings help describe the mobile options.
- On the web: Check Calendar’s primary time zone in settings, as well as the event-level time zone. Google explains the relationship in its time-zone help.
A different displayed clock time is not, by itself, evidence that an event’s saved duration is wrong. Confirm the event’s start and end in their intended zones before editing them.

Google warns that some events in past or future years might not reflect daylight-saving changes correctly, and that events created before a region changed its time zone may be wrong. For an event on a date affected by a local rule change, verify the intended local start time and zone in the event itself. Do not assume daylight saving is the cause for an ordinary time discrepancy; first compare the event and device settings. Google’s time-zone guidance describes these limitations.

If the time changes after editing or importing
If only an imported event or an event edited on another device changes unexpectedly after saving, record the details before making repeated corrections:

A 2021 Google Calendar Help Community thread contains one user’s report of timing changing during an edit and a volunteer’s suggestion to check device time-zone settings. It is an individual report, not evidence of a universal Calendar defect.
