They have different menus, account requirements, limits and failure modes. Identify which one you created before changing anything. Spark has Tasks and Schedules views; chat scheduled actions are managed from Settings & help → Scheduled actions or from the action’s conversation.
Once you identify the feature, check access, status, limits, timing, connected apps and notifications in that order. A missing control is usually an eligibility or rollout issue; a schedule that exists but does not run is more often paused, over a limit, blocked by usage, delayed by traffic or anchored to a different time zone.

First, identify which Gemini feature you used
| Feature | Where you manage it | Key limits and requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini Spark task schedule | Gemini Spark’s Tasks and Schedules views | Age 18+, personal Google Account, Google AI Pro or Ultra, Keep Activity on; up to 50 active schedules and 15 concurrently running tasks |
| Scheduled action in Gemini chat | Settings & help → Scheduled actions or the action’s chat | Personal account, or qualifying Workspace account; Keep Activity on; gradual rollout; up to 10 active actions |
Google explicitly says Spark schedules are different from scheduled actions in Gemini chat. The Spark documentation is at Google’s task-schedule help page, while chat actions are covered on Google’s scheduled-actions help page. Instructions for one feature do not reliably fix the other.
There is a third Spark term that can add to the confusion: a task is the goal, a schedule is the time or event condition that starts it, and a skill supplies reusable instructions and context. A skill is not a timer and cannot make an inactive schedule run. Diagnose the schedule or action first, then inspect the task instructions or skill only if execution is actually occurring but the result is wrong.

When Gemini Spark is missing or you cannot create a schedule
Check account, age, plan and region
Gemini Spark currently requires all of the following:
- You are 18 or older.
- You use a personal Google Account, not a work or school account.
- Your account has Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra.
- Keep Activity is turned on.
Google lists Spark as unavailable in the European Economic Area, Nigeria, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. It is available through Gemini on mobile, the Gemini app on Mac and the Gemini web app. If the Spark switch, Tasks view or schedule controls are absent, verify these conditions before rewriting your prompt. An account can be eligible in principle but still lack access because of geography, account type or plan.
Check the account actually signed in to Gemini, especially if a browser has several Google profiles. A personal profile may qualify while a school or employer profile does not. Likewise, having a Google AI subscription on one account does not grant Spark access to a different account shown in the account switcher.
Understand what happens after a plan change
Cancelling or downgrading to a plan without Spark access removes access to Spark tasks and schedules. Google says the schedules are paused rather than deleted. Resubscribing or upgrading to an eligible plan restores access, after which you can resume the paused schedules. Do not recreate every task immediately; first check whether the originals are still present and paused.
Complete every required field when creating from a template
A schedule made from a template needs a name, a run time and task instructions. If any of those fields is empty, creation can be blocked. A schedule that has reached a completed state cannot be edited or resumed; Google says it can only be deleted. Create a new schedule with the corrected instructions instead of looking for a resume control that will not appear.
Distinguish a creation failure from an execution failure
If no schedule card is created, focus on eligibility and the required fields. If a card exists with a status, creation succeeded and the next checks are activation, limits, timing and usage. This distinction prevents a user from repeatedly submitting the same template when the real issue is that an existing schedule is completed or the account has reached 50 active schedules.
Why a Spark schedule exists but did not run
1. Confirm that the schedule is active
- Open Gemini Spark.
- Open Tasks.
- Select the relevant task thread.
- Inspect its schedules and the status sections.
- Confirm that the schedule is ongoing, not paused, completed or otherwise inactive.
If Gemini Spark itself is turned off, Google says its schedules pause automatically. Turning Spark back on does not make a completed schedule reusable; it only lets eligible paused schedules be resumed. Read the status shown in the schedule rather than inferring it from the task thread’s last message.

2. Check the 50-active-schedule limit
Google currently documents a maximum of 50 active Spark schedules. This is a feature limit, not a recommendation. If you have reached it, pause or delete an existing active schedule before creating or resuming another. A schedule that is already paused may not count as active, but verify the status shown in your account rather than relying on memory.
3. Check concurrent tasks and Gemini usage
Spark will not start a schedule when 15 tasks are already running. Google documents a maximum of 15 concurrently running tasks. A separate Gemini Apps usage limit can also prevent a schedule from running at its appointed time. These are different checks: you can be below the 50-schedule cap and still be blocked because too many tasks are running or your account has reached its usage allowance.
When a run is missed, inspect whether other long-running tasks were active and whether the account displayed a Gemini usage-limit warning at that time. Waiting for running tasks to finish or for the usage allowance to become available may be necessary; repeatedly editing the prompt will not remove a capacity limit. Record the approximate run time and any warning before retrying, because a later successful run may simply reflect restored capacity.
4. Treat the time as approximate
Google states that Spark schedule run times are approximate and may not occur at the exact moment a time or event condition is met. High traffic can delay scheduled tasks. Spark is therefore unsuitable for a guaranteed deadline, a precise alarm or a time-critical transaction. A task that runs later than the nominal time may be delayed rather than permanently failed.

Event-based conditions deserve the same caution as clock times: the condition can be recognized after the event rather than at the exact instant it occurs. Leave a reasonable window for the run and check the task thread later before concluding that it never executed.
5. Test with Run now
For a new time-based Spark schedule, use its Run now control. A successful manual run confirms that the task can execute at that moment, but it does not prove that the future schedule will run: the scheduled attempt can still encounter a paused state, a usage limit, the 15-task concurrency cap, a time-zone mismatch or traffic delay. Use the result to separate an instruction or access problem from a scheduling problem.
If Run now also fails, capture the displayed error and check eligibility, connected context and current usage before changing the schedule. If Run now succeeds, leave the task instructions unchanged while testing the schedule; otherwise you may introduce a second variable and lose the comparison.

6. Verify the schedule’s original time zone
Time-based Spark schedules remain anchored to the time zone in which they were created. Travelling to another region does not automatically move the schedule to local time. If you now need a different local time, ask Gemini to edit the schedule using the new time zone, then inspect the resulting schedule details. A run that appears early or late after travel can therefore be expected behavior rather than a failed trigger.
For reliable troubleshooting, write down the creation location or time zone, the intended local time and the observed run time. Compare those values before changing the schedule. A calendar or phone time-zone change alone does not necessarily change the schedule’s stored zone.
Why a scheduled action in Gemini chat is missing or stopped
Check account eligibility and rollout status
Chat scheduled actions support a personal Google Account, or a work or school account on a qualifying Google Workspace edition. Keep Activity must be on. Google is rolling the feature out gradually to personal accounts and says it may not be available to every otherwise eligible user yet. If Scheduled actions is absent from the menu, confirm the account and activity setting, then allow for rollout; do not apply Spark’s 50-schedule instructions to this feature.
Check the 10-action limit
Google currently permits 10 active scheduled actions in Gemini chat. Review the existing actions and disable or remove one before creating another if the limit has been reached. This cap is separate from Spark’s 50 active schedules and should not be combined with it.
Turn an inactive action back on
Open Settings & help → Scheduled actions and check whether the action is enabled. Google says an action can be automatically turned off because of inactivity. Turn it on again to resume it, or open the action’s chat and manage it there. If the action is not listed at all, revisit account eligibility and gradual-rollout status before assuming it was deleted.

An action that reads or changes information in another service needs that service connected to Gemini. For example, an action that depends on Gmail, Calendar or another Google Workspace app cannot complete without the relevant connected-app permission. Gemini should ask you to connect the app when it is missing. Follow that prompt, then retry the action; changing the schedule time does not substitute for granting the required app access.
After connecting an app, confirm that you connected it to the same Google account that owns the scheduled action. A browser session can show a connected service under one profile while the action belongs to another. If the action still cannot access the data, open its conversation and look for a fresh connection request rather than assuming the original permission was inherited.

Separate execution from notification
A scheduled action can run even when no phone alert appears. Google says the result is shown in the web app as an unread chat and may notify a mobile device depending on notification settings. If you suspect a missed run, first open Gemini on the web and look for an unread conversation. Only after confirming that no result exists should you treat execution as the primary problem.
If the result is present but your phone did not alert you, check the operating system’s notification permission for the Gemini app, the app’s own notification settings and any focus or do-not-disturb mode. Notification delivery is a separate layer from task execution. Conversely, seeing an alert does not guarantee that the underlying response completed correctly; open the chat to inspect the actual result.
Understand scheduled-action timing
Chat scheduled actions are prepared in advance rather than necessarily generated at the exact delivery moment. Google says responses for accounts without a Google AI plan may be prepared several hours early, while accounts with a Google AI plan may have them prepared within the hour before delivery. Information that changes rapidly may therefore be out of date by the time you read the result. Use these actions for periodic summaries and reminders, not for guaranteed real-time facts.
This preparation window explains why a scheduled action can appear in the chat before its nominal delivery time and why a breaking event may be absent. Treat the scheduled time as the delivery target, not proof that Gemini queried every connected service at that exact minute.

A complete troubleshooting sequence
Use this order so that a later setting does not obscure an earlier access problem.
- Name the interface. Decide whether the task is in Spark or in a Gemini chat. Open the matching management screen.
- Verify eligibility. Check account type, age and plan; for Spark, check country and supported platform; for chat actions, account rollout and qualifying Workspace status also matter.
- Confirm Keep Activity. Both features require it to be enabled.
- Inspect status. Look for paused, completed, disabled or inactive states. A completed Spark schedule must be deleted and recreated.
- Check feature-specific caps. Spark: 50 active schedules and 15 concurrently running tasks. Chat actions: 10 active actions.
- Check capacity at the intended run time. Look for Gemini Apps usage-limit messages and other tasks that were running.
- Verify timing. Account for approximate Spark timing, high-traffic delays, advance preparation of chat actions and the Spark creation time zone.
- Test execution separately. Use Spark’s Run now control where available; for chat actions, inspect the action’s conversation and the web unread-chat state.
- Check dependencies and alerts. Reconnect required apps and verify device notification permissions only after confirming whether a result was produced.
- Escalate persistent failures. If the feature remains eligible, active and below its limits but still fails, report it through Gemini Apps feedback or Google support with the account, feature, schedule status, intended time zone and approximate run time.
What the documented limits do—and do not—tell you
The numbers above are current product limits published in Google Help, not guarantees that every account receives identical capacity at every moment. Public help pages cannot reveal whether a particular account has received a gradual rollout, reached a live compute limit or encountered a temporary service incident. Your account’s status screens and the result of a controlled test are the authoritative checks for an individual failure.
For Spark-specific definitions and schedule management, consult Google Gemini Apps Help: Create and manage schedules for tasks in Gemini Spark. For chat actions, use Google Gemini Apps Help: Schedule actions in Gemini Apps. Skills are a separate Spark concept that supplies reusable instructions and context; Google describes them at Create and manage skills for Gemini Apps. A skill does not turn a missing schedule into an active one.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why didn’t my Gemini schedule run on time or run at all?
First identify whether it is a Gemini Spark schedule or a scheduled action in Gemini chat. For Spark, check that the schedule is ongoing, below the 50-active-schedule cap, not blocked by the 15-concurrent-task limit or a Gemini Apps usage limit, and anchored to the intended time zone. Google also says Spark times are approximate and high traffic can delay a run. For chat actions, check that the action is enabled, below the 10-action cap, and has any required connected app.
I can’t create or turn on a Spark schedule. What should I check?
Verify that you are at least 18, using a personal Google Account with Google AI Pro or Ultra, in a supported country and platform, with Keep Activity on. If you created it from a template, provide a name, run time and task instructions. A completed schedule cannot be resumed or edited; delete it and create a new one. Also check whether 50 active schedules already exist.
Does travelling change a Spark schedule’s time?
No. A time-based Spark schedule remains anchored to the time zone where it was created. If you need the new local time, ask Gemini to edit the schedule using the new time zone and then inspect its details.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhy is Scheduled actions missing from Gemini chat?
Chat scheduled actions require Keep Activity and either a personal account or a qualifying Google Workspace account. Google is gradually rolling the feature out to personal accounts, so an otherwise eligible account may not have the control yet. This feature uses a separate limit of 10 active actions.
Can a scheduled action run without a phone notification?
Yes. Google says the result appears as an unread chat in the web app and may notify a mobile device depending on notification settings. Check the unread web conversation first, then review Gemini and operating-system notification permissions.
Why is a scheduled Gemini response out of date?
Scheduled actions can be prepared in advance. Google says accounts without a Google AI plan may receive responses prepared several hours early, while Google AI plan accounts may have them prepared within the hour before delivery. Rapidly changing information may therefore not be current when you read it.
What should I do after cancelling Google AI Pro or Ultra?
Spark tasks and schedules are paused, not deleted, when access is removed by cancellation or downgrade. After resubscribing or upgrading to an eligible plan, return to Spark and resume the paused schedules instead of recreating them.
Recommended Free Tools
When should I contact Google support?
Escalate after confirming the correct feature, account eligibility, Keep Activity, active status, feature-specific limits, timing and connected apps. Include the schedule or action status, approximate run time, intended time zone, account type and any usage-limit or error message. Persistent failures may reflect rollout conditions or a temporary service incident that public settings cannot diagnose.
The Bottom Line
Gemini automation failures are usually feature-specific. Identify Spark versus chat scheduled actions, verify eligibility and Keep Activity, inspect status and the correct cap, then check usage, timing, time zone, connected apps and notifications. Spark allows up to 50 active schedules and 15 concurrent tasks; chat scheduled actions allow up to 10 active actions. Treat both timings as non-guaranteed, and use the account’s status screens and a controlled test before recreating anything.
