Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches“Insufficient video data” is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Check YouTube’s stream-health messages alongside OBS Statistics to see whether the problem is unstable transmission, rendering lag, or encoding lag before changing settings. YouTube recommends 35 Mbps for 4K/2160p at 60 fps with AV1 or H.265, and 50 Mbps with H.264—but those are encoder bitrate recommendations, not proof that your internet connection can sustain them.
What the warning does—and does not—tell you
The warning alone does not identify a single cause. A stream can send too little data because the connection is unstable, because OBS cannot render or encode frames in time, or because of output or delivery-path issues. Without the stream’s health messages and encoder diagnostics, it is not possible to identify which applies to your setup.

Before changing anything, note your output resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, keyframe interval, and whether OBS sends directly to YouTube or through a relay. Compare YouTube’s stream-health indicators with OBS Statistics while reproducing the issue using a scene and movement like those in the planned stream.

Check YouTube’s recommended 4K60 settings
YouTube’s current live-encoder guidance gives different 2160p60 bitrate figures for different codecs. These are settings for the incoming encoder stream, not a guarantee of stable delivery over a particular internet connection. YouTube advises choosing a quality your connection can reliably sustain and testing upload bitrate before the event. YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance also lists these settings:
#1 Best Overall
- 【1080P HD High Quality】Capture resolution up to 1080p for video source and it is ideal for all HDMI devices such as PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, DVDs, DSLR, Camera, Security Camera and set top box. - 【HDMI LOOP-OUT】Based on the high-speed USB 3.0 technology, it can capture one single channel HD HDMI video signal. There is no delay when you are playing game live.
- 【Support Mic-in for Commentary】Rybozen capture card has microphone input and you can use it to add external commentary when playing a game. Please note: it only accepts 3.5mm TRS standard microphone headset.
| Video codec | 2160p60 minimum bitrate | 2160p60 recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) | 10 Mbps | 35 Mbps |
| H.264 | 14 Mbps | 50 Mbps |
- Protocol: RTMP or RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS.
- Bitrate mode: CBR.
- Keyframes: two-second interval recommended; do not exceed four seconds.
- Frame rate: up to 60 fps.
YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into multiple output formats. For 2160p, its low-latency option is unavailable; YouTube sets these streams to normal latency. A bitrate that matches the recommended figure can still fail if the connection cannot sustain it reliably.
Use the indicators to choose the right troubleshooting branch
OBS Statistics and YouTube stream health help distinguish local workload problems from transmission trouble. Treat the indicators as diagnostic clues, not proof of one unique cause.

| What you see | Likely area to investigate | Next test |
|---|---|---|
| Network-dropped frames or unstable transmission | Upload capacity, network stability, or delivery path | Check sustained upload stability against your configured bitrate, pause competing uploads, and test with less data demand. If Wi-Fi instability is suspected, try wired Ethernet. |
| Encoding lag or an encoding-overloaded message | Local encoding workload | Reduce output resolution or frame rate. If 60 fps is not working, test at 30 fps. |
| Rendering lag | GPU or rendering pressure, game load, or complex OBS scenes | Limit the game’s frame rate, lower its graphics settings, and simplify OBS scenes, sources, or filters. |
| OBS indicators look healthy but YouTube health remains poor | Output settings, ingest path, relay, or another cause not distinguished by those indicators | Compare the output settings with YouTube’s current guidance and, where practical, test a direct, stable path. More diagnostics are needed to isolate the cause. |
If the network branch is implicated
Check sustained upload, not just a speed-test peak
Compare your configured video bitrate with YouTube’s recommendation for your actual codec, resolution, and frame rate. Run an upload speed test and account for other traffic using the same connection. A brief high result does not establish that the connection can sustain the stream.
Reduce demand and retest
If transmission is unstable, lower the configured bitrate or output quality and repeat the test. Pause other uploads or transfers that compete for bandwidth. Try Ethernet only if Wi-Fi instability appears to be involved; a wired connection will not fix local rendering or encoding overload.

Check both legs when using a relay
If OBS sends to a multistream service or relay, inspect the encoder-to-relay feed and the onward path to YouTube. A relay adds another segment to check, but its presence alone does not show that it caused the warning.

OBS needs GPU time to composite and render scenes; resource pressure can cause choppy output or encoding-overloaded messages. These adjustments target local workload, not internet upload capacity. OBS’s encoding-performance troubleshooting guidance recommends trying the relevant changes:

- Reduce OBS output resolution or frame rate; test 30 fps if 60 fps is not working.
- Simplify scenes and reduce resource-heavy sources or filters.
Run a controlled test before the event
- Write down your current output resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and keyframe interval. Note the OBS Statistics readings and YouTube stream-health messages.
- Run a private or otherwise appropriate test with audio and video movement similar to the real stream. YouTube recommends testing before going live.
- Choose the branch indicated by the diagnostics: transmission, rendering, or encoding.
- Change one relevant setting, repeat the same test, and compare the indicators. Keeping other settings constant makes it easier to tell whether the change helped.
- Monitor stream health during the actual event and review any messages YouTube displays.
