Siri opens when you press and hold the Home button; a quick tap should not activate it. To stop the button from launching Siri on iPhone 8 or earlier, go to Settings > Accessibility > Home Button > Press and Hold to Speak and select Off. Apple says this disables voice activation from a held Home button, while leaving other ways to use Siri available.
Why a Home-button press opens Siri
The Home-button gesture for Siri is a press and hold, not an ordinary tap. If Siri appears while you intend to tap, you may be holding the button long enough to trigger voice activation. Apple documents the press-and-hold behavior in its iOS 26 iPhone guide.

Turn off Siri activation from the Home button
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility, then Home Button.
- Under Press and Hold to Speak, select Off.
This setting controls whether Siri or Classic Voice Control responds when you hold the Home button; it does not disable Siri everywhere. Apple describes the option in its guide to turning off Classic Voice Control.

The Home-button instructions apply to iPhone 8 or earlier. iPhone X and later models use a Side button rather than a Home button, so the corresponding control is under Settings > Accessibility > Side Button. Apple’s button settings guide covers both paths. The press-and-hold option applies only to the Side or Home button.

If Siri opens while a headset is connected
If the activation happens with a headset connected, rather than specifically when you hold the Home button, check that the headset is fully inserted. Apple notes that a loose connection, a damaged cable, or moisture on the connector or remote can cause unexpected Siri or Classic Voice Control activation. If the problem continues, try another headset. This is a separate possible trigger, not a reason to assume the headset caused a Home-button-specific issue.
Use AssistiveTouch if pressing the button is difficult
AssistiveTouch is a built-in accessibility feature that can perform actions such as going to the Home Screen or activating Siri. To enable it, open Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch. Apple lists its available actions in the AssistiveTouch guide.

If the Settings labels do not match
Menu names can vary by iOS version. Siri preferences may appear under Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri; Apple’s Siri troubleshooting guide notes the label difference. For the button gesture, look specifically in Accessibility for Home Button or Side Button, according to your iPhone model.
