Samsung’s guidance confirms that words are saved as learned words, but it does not explain why a particular deleted word might return without being typed again.
Why a deleted word may appear again
Samsung says Samsung Keyboard learns frequently used and newly typed words to make suggestions. Samsung UK Support explains: “Your phone will automatically save words as ‘learned words’ as you type.” It also says a word can be saved after you type it and tap the spacebar. Samsung’s instructions for predictive text and learned words describe removing a learned word and clearing personalized predictions.

If the word returns after you type it again, it may have been learned again. Samsung’s published guidance does not confirm that as the explanation for every returning word. It also does not establish whether sync, backup, another keyboard feature, or a software issue is responsible when a deleted word returns without being typed again.

Remove one word from Samsung Keyboard
- Wait until the unwanted word appears in the Samsung Keyboard suggestion bar.
- Touch and hold the word.
- When prompted, tap OK to remove it from learned words.
This removes an individual learned suggestion rather than clearing the broader prediction profile. Samsung US Support also explains the keyboard’s learned words and prediction settings in its Samsung Keyboard settings guide.

Erase the learned prediction profile
If individual removal is not enough, Samsung provides an option to erase personalized predictions. This is broader than deleting one word: Samsung says it erases prediction data and learned words.
- Open Settings.
- Tap General management.
- Tap Samsung Keyboard settings.
- Tap Reset to default settings.
- Choose Erase personalized predictions, then tap Erase to confirm.
This specifically clears personalized prediction data; it is not simply clearing the keyboard’s cache. Menu names and available options can differ by device, operating system, and app version. If the path does not match your phone, search Settings for “Samsung Keyboard” or open keyboard settings from the keyboard.

Check whether it is a suggestion or another keyboard feature
A word shown in the suggestion bar is different from text that the keyboard changes or inserts while you type. Samsung documents Auto replace and Text shortcuts as separate features from predictive suggestions. Auto replace can substitute text, while a text shortcut expands a configured phrase. If the behavior is replacement or expansion rather than a displayed suggestion, review those settings in Samsung Keyboard settings. What Samsung’s guidance does not explain
Samsung’s support information confirms that the keyboard learns words, lets you remove an individual learned word, and can erase personalized prediction data. It does not identify a cause when a deleted word returns without being typed again, so it is not possible to attribute that behavior to sync, backup, or a particular software fault based on these instructions alone. Samsung’s Korea support page also notes that steps and labels can vary by device and software version: Galaxy suggested-phrase settings guidance.
