“No Internet, secured” means your Windows PC is connected to the local Wi-Fi network but Windows cannot detect internet access. “Secured” describes the Wi-Fi connection; it does not mean the internet is working, and the message alone does not identify the cause. The problem may be with the PC’s network settings, the router, or the internet service. Start by checking whether other devices are affected, then work through the least disruptive fixes first.
What the “No Internet, secured” status means
Microsoft describes the status as a Windows PC connected to its local network but not to the internet. In other words, Wi-Fi has connected the PC to the router, but Windows is not detecting a working path to internet services. The wording does not, by itself, show that your password or Wi-Fi security is the problem. Microsoft Support’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide explains this distinction.

Treat the message as a symptom, not a diagnosis. The fault could involve the PC’s IP address, DNS or proxy settings, Wi-Fi adapter or driver, the router, or the internet provider. A couple of comparison tests can help narrow down where to look.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFirst determine whether the problem is the PC or the network
Check another phone, computer, or tablet connected to the same Wi-Fi. If those devices also cannot get online, the router, modem, or provider is a more useful place to start. If they work, test the affected PC on another Wi-Fi network, such as a phone hotspot, if one is available.

| Test result | What it suggests | Next move |
|---|---|---|
| Other devices also have no internet on this Wi-Fi | The issue may involve the router, modem, or upstream internet service. | Restart the network equipment. If the problem continues, contact your internet provider or router support. |
| Other devices work, but this PC does not | The PC or its interaction with this network is more likely involved. | Test the PC on another network, then check its IP, DNS, proxy, and adapter settings. |
| The PC works on another Wi-Fi network | The original network’s equipment or configuration is more suspect. | Check the router and its network settings rather than assuming the PC needs a new adapter. |
| The PC fails on multiple networks | A device-side setting, driver, or adapter becomes more plausible. | Run Windows diagnostics and inspect the PC’s network settings and adapter. |
These results are clues, not proof of a particular failure. A test cannot always distinguish an ISP issue from a router, driver, or compatibility problem.
Try basic reconnection steps
- Confirm Wi-Fi is on and the right network is selected. Make sure the PC is connected to the network you intend to use.
- Forget the saved Wi-Fi network and reconnect. Select the network, choose the option to forget it, then connect again and enter its password.
- Restart the modem and router. If they are separate devices, restart both. This temporarily disconnects everyone using the network while the equipment refreshes its connection to the provider.
- On Windows 11, start with the automated troubleshooter. Open the Get Help app and use its Network and Internet troubleshooter. Windows layouts and labels vary by version and update, so follow the instructions shown for your installation.
Check IP assignment, DNS, and proxy settings
Renew the IP configuration and clear the DNS cache
If the PC remains connected to Wi-Fi without internet access, Microsoft recommends running these commands in an elevated Command Prompt:

- Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Run each command, pressing Enter after each one:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
The first two commands ask Windows to release and request an IP address; the third clears the stored DNS cache. If your network uses a manually assigned static IP, do not assume that address should be released and replaced.
Look for an IP address problem
An address in the 169.254.x.x range can indicate that Windows did not obtain an IP address from the router, provided you are not using a static IP. Check whether DHCP is enabled on the router and consult its documentation for the relevant setting. A valid local IP address, on the other hand, does not guarantee DNS is working.

Check DNS and proxy configuration
Check whether a DNS server is listed and reachable. If DNS appears to be the problem, Microsoft suggests trying another DNS server, but there is no single public DNS provider that is the right choice for every user or network.
Also inspect Windows proxy settings. Turn off a manual proxy only if you know it is not required by your workplace, school, or network administrator. Disabling an intentionally configured proxy may prevent access to the services your organization provides.

Investigate the Wi-Fi adapter and driver
If the basic steps and configuration checks do not help, inspect the Wi-Fi adapter in Device Manager. Before uninstalling its driver, make sure you have a backup driver available—especially if this PC cannot connect to the internet to download one.
Microsoft’s guidance is to uninstall the adapter driver and restart the PC. Windows may reinstall the driver automatically. If it does not, install the saved driver from the device manufacturer. This is a troubleshooting step, not evidence by itself that the adapter hardware is defective.

Use Network Reset only as a last resort
Network Reset removes installed network adapters and their settings. After the PC restarts, Windows installs the adapters again with default settings. Before using it, note any special network configuration: you may need to reinstall or set up VPN software or virtual switches, and known connections may become public network profiles. Microsoft presents this as a last step, not the first fix to try.
