If your Samsung Galaxy Watch battery is draining faster than expected, the cause is often a combination of display activity, background apps, connections, location use, or frequent health measurements—not necessarily a failing battery. A newly set-up watch may also use more power while apps install and it learns your usage. Work through the checks below, changing one thing at a time so you can see what helps.
Settings and menu names vary by Galaxy Watch model, region, and software version. Samsung’s current support guidance covers common causes, but it does not establish one battery-life target that applies to every watch and usage pattern.

Why a Galaxy Watch battery can drain quickly
Several features can draw power at once. Samsung identifies setup and app installation, background activity, a bright or always-on display, frequent notifications, network searching, GPS, voice wake features, and automatic heart-rate or stress measurements as possible contributors. A weak Wi-Fi or mobile connection can be especially demanding when the watch keeps searching or trying to connect.

Samsung says usage-pattern learning can also affect battery performance for about the first week; that is an approximate adjustment period, not a guarantee that every watch will reach a particular runtime. What to check first
Update software and apps
Install available watch software and app updates. Samsung notes that an app problem can contribute to excessive battery use, so updating is a sensible early step before changing features you rely on. Guidance is available from Samsung India.
Find apps using power in the background
Apps may continue working when they are not open on screen. If your model reports app battery use, review the list and look for an app consuming more than you expect. Close apps you are not using, and uninstall ones you no longer need. Reduce display and notification activity
The display is a practical place to start because these adjustments are reversible and usually do not affect core watch functions.

- Lower screen brightness and shorten the screen timeout or display-on duration.
- Turn off Always On Display if you do not need the watch face visible at all times.
- Disable notifications from apps that are not important on your wrist.
- If available, turn off the setting that wakes the screen for notifications you do not need to see immediately.

Check Wi-Fi, mobile service, and GPS
When you do not need a connection, switching off Wi-Fi or mobile connectivity may reduce searching and background network activity. On an LTE model, disabling mobile service can disconnect the watch from carrier service; network-dependent features may stop working. Turn GPS or location use off when you are not using an activity or feature that needs it. These are not universal fixes: keep the connection or location access required by the functions you rely on.

Choose how often health features measure
Automatic heart-rate and stress measurements can use more power than less frequent checks. Where your model offers the option, you can set measurements to occur less often or manually. Do this only if the reduced monitoring suits your needs; retain health tracking that you depend on. Voice wake features can also be reviewed if you rarely use them. Available controls vary by model and software.

Power Saving can extend use by limiting some combination of connectivity, background work, display behavior, or performance. The specific restrictions depend on the watch. Samsung’s guidance for Watch5 and Watch5 Pro and Watch7 and Watch Ultra illustrates that mode behavior is model-specific.

Watch only mode is a more restrictive option for situations when you primarily need timekeeping and can do without smart features. Check the description on your watch before enabling either mode so you know which functions will be unavailable. These modes are useful temporary options, not evidence that the underlying battery has been repaired.
Inspect the charger, watch, and operating conditions
If settings and apps do not explain the drain, inspect the watch and charger for physical or liquid damage. Use Samsung-approved charging accessories designed for your exact watch, and avoid exposing the watch to very hot or cold conditions. A compatible charger can address charging problems, but it cannot correct software-related drain or restore battery capacity. Samsung’s support guidance covers accessory and temperature checks.

When to run a diagnostic or contact support
If the battery continues to drain unusually after updates and settings checks, use the battery diagnostic in Samsung Members if it is available on your paired Samsung phone and watch. The diagnostic may help identify a battery issue; availability can depend on device and software. If the watch or charger is damaged, or the diagnostic does not resolve the concern, contact Samsung support for model-specific help.
For a new watch, consider whether setup and usage learning are still underway before treating the behavior as persistent. Samsung’s stated approximate first-week period is guidance, not a promise of a specific runtime or a reason to ignore ongoing problems.
