If the event details show the right time, check whether the event and calendar are using different time zones, or whether the event was imported or synced.
Check the event’s saved start time first
- Open the event’s details; its position on the calendar grid may not make the AM/PM value clear.
- Read the start time and its AM/PM marker, if shown. In a 12-hour clock, 12:00 AM is midnight and 12:00 PM is noon. In a 24-hour clock, 00:00 is midnight and 12:00 is noon.
- If the event says 12:00 AM or 00:00, edit it and select the intended noon time. In a 12-hour picker, explicitly choose PM; in a 24-hour picker, choose 12:00.
A 24-hour display setting changes how times are rendered; by itself, it does not show that an event’s actual time changed. Apple’s archived developer guidance describes a narrower software issue: the 12/24-hour preference can affect parsing by apps that use NSDateFormatter with fixed-format dates. That is relevant if an app or import parser mishandled a time, but it does not establish that your calendar app did so. Apple Developer: NSDateFormatter and Internet Dates

Check the event time zone and the calendar’s display zone
An event can be scheduled in one time zone and displayed in another. If its saved time looks right but the calendar shows a different hour, compare the event’s zone with the calendar’s or device’s display zone.

Apple says Calendar normally displays events according to your current location’s time zone. You can create an event in another time zone or turn on Time Zone Override; Apple notes that this override changes only the time zone shown in Calendar. See Apple’s instructions for scheduling or displaying events in another time zone.

In Google Calendar
Google Calendar supports time zones for both calendars and individual events. Its API documentation explains that event times may include a UTC offset, use a separate time-zone field, or be expressed in UTC. Results are returned in the requested time zone, or in the calendar’s time zone if no time zone is requested. See Google Calendar’s time-zone documentation.
Check imported, invited, or synced events
If the event came from a subscription, invitation, file import, or another calendar app, compare its details in the source and destination calendars. A mismatch may come from the source data or from how an integration interpreted it, but the event’s export and sync route must be inspected before assigning a cause.

For a technical iCalendar export, inspect the DTSTART value and whether it includes a TZID time-zone reference or is specified in UTC. RFC 5545 distinguishes floating local times, UTC times, and local times tied to a time zone. A floating time retains the same wall-clock hour for viewers in different zones, so it does not identify one fixed instant. The specification says a fixed time should be communicated in UTC or as local time with a time-zone reference. RFC 5545, especially §§3.3.5 and 3.3.12

Daylight-saving time is not a general explanation for an event saved at midnight. Microsoft documents a specific Outlook issue in which a calendar view showing multiple time zones can display an incorrect time difference on the day daylight saving time starts or ends. Its example shows a UTC+00:00 meeting aligned one hour off in the calendar time bar, while the following week displays correctly. Check Microsoft’s Outlook guidance if you use that view and the shift occurs on a DST transition; its workaround depends on the view and deployment.

Use the symptom to narrow down the cause
- Event details say 12:00 AM or 00:00: Correct the saved time and confirm PM if you use a 12-hour picker.
- Event details show noon, but the calendar grid looks different: Compare the event’s time zone with the calendar’s display zone.
- Only an imported or synced event is affected: Compare source and destination details; if available, inspect the exported start time and its zone designation.
- The offset appears on a DST transition in Outlook’s multi-time-zone view: Check Microsoft’s documented case rather than assuming every midnight display has the same cause.
