Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsA MediaLive-to-YouTube stream can break at the input, the MediaLive output, the network path, or YouTube ingest—and the word “disconnecting” alone does not identify which. Start by matching the exact MediaLive alert and YouTube Live Control Room health message to the same timestamp. Then check whether MediaLive stopped its output, YouTube stopped receiving it, or viewers merely lost playback.
First identify what is actually disconnecting
Before changing settings, establish which part of the chain failed. MediaLive alerts, YouTube ingest health, and viewer playback describe different points in the path; a problem at one does not prove a problem at another.
- MediaLive reports an output or destination failure: inspect that output’s event and its RTMP reconnection settings.
- YouTube Live Control Room reports an ingest or configuration error: use its specific health message, then verify the destination URL, stream key, and encoder profile.
- Only viewers report interruptions: check YouTube’s stream health and whether the live stream remains active before assuming MediaLive disconnected.
- The picture freezes or vanishes while the destination connection remains up: investigate input loss separately from output disconnection.
YouTube says Live Control Room displays stream health and specific error messages during a live stream. Compare those messages with MediaLive events and any source-side encoder or network events at the same time.
Read the MediaLive alert carefully
AWS documents these RTMP input alert codes: 5308 (RTMP server disconnected), 5305 (stream not found), 5307 (no audio/video), and 5309 (connection failed). These are RTMP input alerts. They are not, by themselves, evidence that the MediaLive-to-YouTube output failed. Check whether the alert belongs to an input or the output in question before treating it as the diagnosis.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Record the full alert text, code, affected input or output, and timestamp. A code without its direction and surrounding events can point you toward the wrong side of the workflow.
Check MediaLive’s RTMP output recovery settings
MediaLive’s RTMP output reconnection behavior is controlled by the output’s configured fields. Review the actual channel values and compare them with the time between the initial failure and the output stopping.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Cache length: inspect the configured cache duration and whether the destination is consuming data as expected.
- Cache-full behavior: MediaLive can disconnect immediately or wait for the server. With the wait behavior, it can wait up to five minutes for the server before disconnecting.
- Restart delay: after a disconnect, MediaLive waits this configured delay before trying again.
- Connection retry interval and retry count: these determine how often and how many times it retries. When the configured retries are exhausted, that output stops.
These values govern recovery after a destination stall; they do not establish why the stall began. If retries are exhausted, increasing them may change how long recovery is attempted, but it does not fix a bad key, unreachable endpoint, or upstream interruption.
Distinguish input loss from an output disconnect
MediaLive has separate input-loss behavior. For an RTMP output group, pausing delivery after input loss does not close the underlying RTMP connection. So a frozen or missing picture can result from loss of source content even while the downstream RTMP connection remains open. Check input status and input-loss events alongside the output events rather than interpreting every blank or frozen stream as a destination disconnect.

Verify YouTube ingest and the stream profile
In YouTube Live Control Room, read the current stream-health message and verify that the URL and stream key configured for the MediaLive destination match the intended YouTube stream. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking the encoder’s output and CPU load; if the output looks healthy, test outbound connectivity.
Compare the MediaLive output profile with YouTube’s current encoder recommendations. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; the keyframe interval should not exceed four seconds. Its bitrate recommendations differ by codec, resolution, and frame rate, so use the current table row for your exact profile rather than applying one bitrate to every stream. YouTube also recommends testing before the event and monitoring stream health while live.

Use timestamps to locate the failing layer
- Write down when the stream first appeared to fail and whether the symptom was an alert, a health warning, or viewer playback loss.
- Find the corresponding MediaLive input and output events. Note which component reported the event and whether the output stopped or retried.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room for the health message at that same time.
- Compare source-side encoder and network events, if applicable, with both services’ timestamps.
- Use the sequence to distinguish an input interruption, destination connection failure, YouTube ingest/configuration issue, or viewer-side playback symptom.
One isolated alert or the word “disconnect” is not enough to identify which side initiated the interruption. The decisive details are the exact MediaLive alert text, whether its output stopped, YouTube’s health message, the destination and retry/cache values, and the stream’s codec, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate.

| What you see | What to inspect first |
|---|---|
| MediaLive output disconnects, then stops | RTMP cache-full behavior, cache length, restart delay, retry interval, and retry count; determine whether the configured retries ran out. |
| MediaLive reports an RTMP input alert | Identify the affected input and investigate that input; do not assume the output to YouTube failed. |
| Video freezes or disappears but the RTMP connection remains open | Input status and input-loss behavior, which are distinct from output reconnection. |
| YouTube reports an ingest or stream configuration problem | Live Control Room’s exact health message, the configured stream URL/key, and output profile compliance. |
| Encoder output looks healthy but delivery still fails | Outbound connectivity between the sender and destination, alongside MediaLive and YouTube event timestamps. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuously running YouTube channel rather than diagnosing this particular MediaLive path, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service that loops uploaded videos to YouTube. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on; the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. Each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price, with no re-encode or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month.
