Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →A 24/7 YouTube radio stream can show video while sending no audio. Check the stream from the source outward: first confirm the audio reaches the encoder’s output, then read YouTube’s Live Control Room health messages, and finally test playback from another device or network. This sequence helps locate the failure before you change settings or buy equipment.
First, find out whether the silence affects everyone
Open the stream on a separate device or network, if possible, and ask another viewer to check. YouTube says a problem reported by one viewer is more likely to be with that viewer’s computer or connection; reports from many viewers using different connections may point to the encoder or stream itself. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends using this distinction as part of diagnosis.
- Only one viewer hears silence: check that viewer’s device volume, audio output selection, browser or app, and connection.
- Viewers on different connections hear silence: continue to the source and encoder checks below.
Check that audio reaches the encoder
A music track playing on the operator’s computer does not prove it is being sent to YouTube. The playlist or other audio source must be active and routed to the encoder’s stream output. Listen to or inspect the stream directly in the encoder. YouTube’s guidance is to “Check the look and sound of your stream directly in the encoder.” If the sound is already missing or wrong there, investigate the source and its routing before changing YouTube settings.
- Confirm the intended playlist or audio source is playing, not paused, ended, or muted.
- Check the encoder’s selected audio input or source and confirm it is routed to the stream output.
- Check source and encoder mute controls and the relevant output level.
- Do not assume that hearing audio through the computer’s speakers means the encoder is receiving it.
Read YouTube’s stream-health errors
Open the Live Dashboard or Live Control Room and inspect messages beside the stream health indicator. YouTube’s error guidance includes timestamps and specific audio errors. Fix the error actually shown rather than changing unrelated settings. YouTube’s live-stream error messages include the no-audio warning: “Your encoder is sending no audio. On some encoders there’s a tick box to turn on audio. YouTube’s pipeline requires audio on all videos.”

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If that message appears, check whether the encoder has a separate option or checkbox to enable audio. A live picture alone does not establish that an audio stream is being ingested.
Verify audio format and channel layout
Use the encoder settings and the exact Live Control Room message to guide changes. YouTube’s error guidance specifies AAC audio for the documented H.264 video ingest configuration, recommends an audio bitrate of 128 Kbps, and includes a correction message for a 44.1 kHz sample rate. These values apply to the documented ingest and error context; follow the error shown and the settings supported by the encoder you use. See YouTube’s audio-related live-stream error guidance.

Also check whether the encoder is sending more than one audio stream or an unintended multichannel layout. YouTube supports mono, stereo, and 5.1 ingestion; other channel configurations may convert unreliably to stereo. A radio stream ordinarily has no need for 5.1, so use an intentional mono or stereo configuration unless you have a reason to send surround sound. YouTube’s 5.1 surround-sound documentation describes supported channel configurations.
If encoder playback is fine, check encoder health and connection
When the encoder’s own output sounds correct but viewers still report problems, check the encoder for errors and high CPU load. Review a local recording or archive, if available, for audio dropouts or other faults, and test the strength of the outbound internet connection. YouTube lists these as troubleshooting checks when stream quality problems persist. Troubleshoot a YouTube live stream.

Recheck the stream key and encoder setup if ingest is not clean
If the encoder cannot establish a reliable connection, verify that its stream settings match the selected YouTube stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guide says to enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in the encoder’s stream settings and configure the audio and video hardware with the encoder. Check the selected stream and key in Live Control Room against the encoder’s saved configuration. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the setup.
Common symptoms and what to check
| What you see or hear | Likely place to investigate | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| Video is live, but the encoder output is silent | Audio source, mute state, or routing | Confirm the playlist is active and routed into the encoder output. |
| YouTube reports that the encoder is sending no audio | Encoder audio output | Enable audio in the encoder if it has a separate audio checkbox or option. |
| YouTube reports an audio codec, setting, or multiple-stream error | Encoder audio configuration | Correct the specific reported issue; check codec, bitrate, sample rate, and whether multiple audio streams are being sent. |
| One viewer reports silence, but others hear the stream | That viewer’s device or connection | Test another device or network and check local playback settings. |
| Encoder output sounds good, but multiple viewers have trouble | Encoder health or outbound connection | Check encoder errors and CPU load, inspect a local archive, and test outbound internet strength. |
Keep a 24/7 stream running without leaving a computer on
For a do-it-yourself setup, use the troubleshooting steps above with your encoder and YouTube Live Control Room. If you would rather have uploaded recordings or a playlist run from the cloud, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera. Its stream runs with your computer off, and it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream.
