If your FFmpeg command puts -stream_loop -1 before a single lesson file, FFmpeg is configured to replay that file forever. The option loops its input; it does not rotate through other lessons. This is the likely explanation, not a confirmed diagnosis of your setup: the exact command, input files, and logs are needed to diagnose anything else.
What -stream_loop -1 does
FFmpeg’s manual defines -stream_loop as the number of times an input is looped: 0 means no loop, and -1 means infinite looping. It is an input option, so placement matters. In ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -i lesson.mp4 ..., the option applies to lesson.mp4. If that is the only lesson input, the same lesson repeats.

How to check your command
- Find every
-iin the command you actually run. - For each
-i, note the file or source that follows it. - Check whether
-stream_loop -1appears before the lesson input. Because it is an input option, it applies to the relevant following input. - If the infinitely looped input is one lesson file, repeating it is expected. If your command selects several files or a playlist, inspect that selection workflow and its logs before concluding why the same lesson appears.
Choose the behavior you want
Repeat one lesson continuously
An infinite loop on that lesson matches this goal. The output stays continuous by replaying the same input.

Rotate among lessons
Use an input or playlist workflow that selects the collection of lessons. Looping one file cannot rotate a library. The exact command depends on your filenames, formats, and whether audio and video tracks must stay synchronized, so there is no safe universal replacement command without those details.
Send prerecorded video at a live pace
-re controls input pacing, not content selection. FFmpeg documents it as reading input at its native frame rate, equivalent to -readrate 1. It does not choose a different lesson or cancel -stream_loop -1.

Check YouTube’s stream separately
First confirm what FFmpeg is sending. Then check the YouTube broadcast and stream state if the live event appears to behave differently. YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes a broadcast—the distinct watchable YouTube video—from a stream, the audiovisual transmission and its settings; its documentation also discusses 24/7 feeds: YouTube Live Streaming API: Understanding Broadcasts and Streams.

Before a live event, YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the intended stream, choosing quality the connection can reliably sustain, and monitoring stream health while live. These checks can help identify input, encoder, or ingest problems, but they do not change which file FFmpeg loops. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and stream-health guidance.

Common causes and fixes
- One lesson is the only input: If that input has
-stream_loop -1, the same file repeats. Select multiple lessons or a playlist if you want rotation. - The loop option is attached to a different input than you expected: FFmpeg options generally apply to the next specified file. Review option placement and identify the input that follows each loop option.
- You expected
-reto advance the lesson: It paces reading at the input’s native frame rate; it does not select content. Change the input or playlist workflow to rotate lessons. - The command already uses several inputs or a playlist: The cause cannot be established from the symptom alone. Inspect the selection workflow and logs, and verify what FFmpeg sends before investigating YouTube’s event state.
