BlueStacks can close or fail to open because of disabled virtualization, limited system resources, outdated graphics drivers, antivirus interference, or a Windows and Hyper-V configuration issue. The first clue is whether the BlueStacks window itself closes or only one Android app crashes. Check the emulator-wide issues first; if just one app fails, use the app-specific steps below.
First, identify what is closing
Watch what happens when the problem occurs. If the BlueStacks window exits, freezes during startup, or never opens, follow the emulator-wide checks. If BlueStacks remains open but one Android app closes or displays a black or white screen, go to the app-specific troubleshooting section.

These symptoms do not identify one cause on their own. BlueStacks lists several possible launch problems, so work through the checks in order, starting with the simplest and most reversible.
Check the PC and BlueStacks basics
- Restart the computer. BlueStacks recommends a restart to clear temporary glitches. If the emulator still fails, continue with the checks below.
- Compare the PC with the requirements for your configuration. BlueStacks’ general BlueStacks 5 requirements list Windows 7 or later, at least 4 GB of RAM, and 5 GB of free storage. They recommend Windows 10 or later for the latest features, 8 GB or more of RAM, enabled virtualization, and an SSD. These are vendor specifications, not a guarantee that BlueStacks will run without problems. See BlueStacks 5 system requirements.
- Check the Hyper-V requirements if Hyper-V is enabled. This is a separate configuration: BlueStacks lists Windows 10 version 1903 or later, or Windows 11, for Hyper-V-enabled use. Consult the Hyper-V-enabled Windows requirements rather than applying the general list alone.
- Free up resources and check allocation. Close applications you are not using, then review the CPU and memory allocated to the BlueStacks instance. BlueStacks lists insufficient CPU or RAM allocation as a possible launch issue. Meeting the published minimum RAM figure does not establish that a particular workload has enough memory.
- Install available updates. Check for pending Windows updates and update your graphics driver using the relevant device or chipset vendor’s instructions. BlueStacks identifies outdated graphics drivers and pending Windows updates as possible factors.
- Check security software settings carefully. Antivirus interference is another possible cause. Follow BlueStacks’ current troubleshooting guidance for your specific setup; do not turn off security protection as a general troubleshooting step.

Check virtualization and Hyper-V
See whether virtualization is enabled
BlueStacks recommends virtualization for performance and stability. On Windows 11, open Task Manager, select Performance, then CPU, and look for the virtualization status. If it is disabled, enabling it generally requires changing a setting in the PC’s UEFI or BIOS. Menu names and steps vary by manufacturer, so use the instructions for your specific computer rather than assuming every system has the same controls. BlueStacks’ Windows 11 virtualization guide includes its recommended procedure. The guide notes that Nougat 32-bit can run without virtualization, although performance may suffer.
Check the installed version before changing Hyper-V
Hyper-V compatibility depends on BlueStacks version and Windows configuration. BlueStacks says version 5.20 and later can run with Hyper-V either enabled or disabled. If the error specifically mentions Hyper-V, check the guidance for your installed version and use BlueStacks’ Hyper-V launch troubleshooting steps. Avoid changing Windows features based on instructions for a different release or setup.

If only one Android app crashes
When BlueStacks stays open and a particular app fails, focus on that app and its graphics compatibility instead of treating the symptom as an emulator launch failure.
- Update the graphics driver. BlueStacks recommends this for black or white screens and app crashes.
- Try another interface renderer. In BlueStacks, open Settings > Graphics, select a different Interface renderer, save the change, and restart BlueStacks.
- Check the app itself. Confirm it supports the Android version used by the BlueStacks instance, and install any available app update.
- Force stop the app and clear its cache. Restart BlueStacks and see whether the app now opens.
- Reinstall only if needed. If the earlier steps do not help, reinstalling the affected app is a later option—not the first step.

Repair BlueStacks or send a problem report
If BlueStacks offers a minor repair prompt, choose Repair now. If the emulator still will not open or keeps closing, submit a problem report to BlueStacks support and include the requested log files.
