Timing alone does not identify the installer, and available sources do not establish one cause for every Galaxy phone.
Are Samsung software updates installing games?
Not necessarily. Samsung describes app updates through Galaxy Store and Google Play as separate from updates to the phone’s software. Its general guidance for installation problems discusses app stores, accounts, compatibility, and installation-source settings; it does not say that Galaxy system updates install games. People do report seeing games after updates in Samsung and Verizon community discussions. Those posts document users’ experiences, not a verified cause for a particular phone or evidence that this happens to all Samsung devices. No representative figures establish how often it occurs or what share of cases involve Samsung, a carrier, or an app store.

An app-store update or recommendation
Galaxy Store and Google Play handle their own app updates. Check each store’s settings separately: changing auto-update behavior in one store affects apps from that store, but does not establish that a separate carrier service cannot install an app. Samsung notes that menu paths can vary with the store version, Galaxy model, and software version.

Community posts include reports involving Galaxy Store and unwanted downloads, but they do not prove that the store installed a particular game on your phone. A recommendation or prompt may also be mistaken for an operating-system update flow.
Carrier app-management software
Carrier-provided app managers or recommendation services are another reported possibility, particularly on carrier-configured phones. Verizon community discussions mention Verizon App Manager, but anecdotal reports do not show that it—or any one service—is responsible for every case or for devices on other carriers. If the game appeared alongside a carrier-branded update or app-manager notification, ask your carrier to identify the installer on your specific phone.

A preinstalled app becoming visible
A game may have been on the phone already but become visible after an update or change in the app list. Check whether it is newly installed rather than assuming that its recent appearance proves a new installation. Settings can show the app’s available controls, though they may not identify who installed it.
How to check what happened on your Galaxy phone
- Record the details. Note the game’s name and when it appeared. Consider whether it is newly installed or was already present but became visible after an update.
- Check the app entry. Open Settings > Apps and select the game. See whether Uninstall is available; if not, check for Disable. The labels and available actions differ by model and software version.
- Review each store’s update settings. Check Galaxy Store and Google Play separately. Samsung’s app-update instructions cover both routes, but the exact menus may vary.
- Look for a carrier app manager or notification. If the timing points to carrier software, contact the carrier and ask which service installed the named game on your model. Community posts can suggest a lead, but cannot confirm the answer for your phone.
Can you remove or disable the game?
Use Settings > Apps > [game] and choose Uninstall if offered. If uninstall is unavailable, Disable may be an option for some apps. Verizon’s guidance for uninstalling apps on Galaxy S25-series phones and disabling or enabling apps on the Galaxy A17 5G illustrates that controls depend on the app and model. Some preinstalled or system apps cannot be removed, and Verizon cautions that disabling an app may affect related functions. Avoid disabling an unfamiliar system or carrier app simply because its name seems connected; ask the carrier what it does first.

What the reports do—and do not—show
Samsung and Verizon community threads include reports of games appearing after updates, including discussions of Galaxy Store downloads, unknown apps downloading, and games appearing after an update. The discussions offer possible explanations, not a universal diagnosis. A game appearing around the same time as an update is not, by itself, proof that Samsung’s operating-system update installed it.

- A newly visible game does not establish who installed it.
