Chrome’s full-size screenshot captures the page area beyond the visible viewport, but that does not guarantee the page has loaded everything that appears only after scrolling. Lazy-loaded images, scripts that wait for an element to enter view, nested scroll panels, and continuously updated feeds can all leave a screenshot incomplete. Scroll the relevant area, wait for the missing content, verify it is present, and then capture.
What Chrome’s full-size screenshot does—and does not—do
Chrome DevTools distinguishes a screenshot of the visible viewport from a full-size screenshot. The full-size option is documented as capturing the whole page, including content outside the viewport. That describes the capture area; it does not establish that Chrome simulates a visitor scrolling through the page first. Chrome’s Device Mode documentation explains the full-size option.

That distinction matters: a long page layout and a page with all its content loaded are not the same thing. The screenshot can include the full document area while still missing resources or components that the site has not fetched or rendered yet.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhy content can appear only after scrolling
Lazy-loaded images and embeds
Pages often defer non-critical resources until they are needed. An image, iframe, video, or audio element may load only when it is near the viewport. MDN notes that lazy loading commonly happens in response to interactions such as scrolling and navigation. It also cautions that the page’s load event does not prove that every lazily loaded resource has finished loading. MDN’s lazy-loading guide describes these behaviors.

JavaScript waiting for an element to enter view
A site may use JavaScript to reveal a section, fetch an image, or append cards when a target intersects the viewport. The Intersection Observer API reports when a target enters or leaves the document viewport—or a specified ancestor. If the site observes a nested scrolling panel, scrolling the main browser window may not trigger the behavior it needs. See MDN’s Intersection Observer documentation.
Infinite feeds and virtualized lists
An infinite feed may append more items as you progress. A virtualized list may render only the items near the current view and reuse or remove elements as you scroll. A full-document capture is not necessarily a record of content that the page never instantiated or no longer retains in the document. This is page-specific behavior, so do not assume every full-size screenshot has this limitation.

Other page-specific causes
Lazy loading is not the only explanation. A slow request, an embedded frame, an access restriction, a script error, or an inner scroll area can also explain why content appears only after interaction. Check the live page to establish whether the content is actually missing or merely cropped from the screenshot.
How to get a more complete capture manually
- Choose the full-size option. In Chrome DevTools Device Mode, use the screenshot menu’s full-size screenshot command rather than a viewport-only capture.
- Reload and scroll through the page. Move down in moderate increments. Pause at each new section so images, embeds, and asynchronous content have time to appear.
- Scroll nested panels separately. If the missing content is inside a panel with its own scrollbar, move that panel as well as the main page.
- Verify the missing section on the live page. Wait for it to appear and, if needed, check again after a reload. The
loadevent alone does not confirm that lazy media is ready. - Capture after the content is present. Use the full-size screenshot command again. Scrolling and waiting is a practical diagnostic and workaround, not a guaranteed fix for every site.
For an infinite or virtualized view, a single full-document screenshot may not represent every item. Capture as you progress through the feed, or use the site’s export or print feature if it suits the task.

Making repeated captures more reliable
If you automate screenshots, reproduce the interaction that causes the content to load instead of relying only on a fixed delay or the page’s load event. A robust workflow should:
- Scroll the main document or the specific nested panel that triggers loading.
- Wait for the expected element or content to appear, rather than assuming a generic delay is enough.
- Confirm that expected elements are present before capturing.
- Account for feeds that keep appending items or virtualized lists that replace items as you move through them.
These are workflow recommendations based on documented browser and web-platform behavior; they do not guarantee that every site can be captured as one complete static page. When choosing an approach, check whether it captures the viewport or full document, performs real scroll interactions, waits for the required content, handles nested scroll containers, and can represent long or virtualized content.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return a screenshot or PDF; its capture options include full-page screenshots with lazy images loaded. Cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture, and each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed; responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server lets AI agents use screenshot tools.
For this specific issue, a service’s ability to load lazy images does not by itself prove that it will trigger every site’s custom scroll-driven code or handle every nested panel or virtualized feed. Verify the page’s behavior when those interactions matter. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options.

Common troubleshooting checks
- The screenshot cuts off below the fold: confirm you selected full-size capture, not viewport capture.
- Images or embeds are missing: scroll near them, wait for them to load, and capture again. Do not treat the
loadevent as proof that lazy-loaded media is ready. - Scrolling the page does nothing: look for a nested panel with its own scrollbar and scroll that container.
- Cards or feed items keep changing: the page may append content or virtualize its list. Capture while progressing through it, or use an appropriate export or print option.
- Content still does not appear: consider delays, blocked access, embedded content, or page scripts, and check the live page after waiting. The cause depends on the specific site.
