But that single retail snapshot does not prove Chinese DRAM costs as much as the major suppliers across the market. A separate estimate put CXMT’s first-quarter 2026 chip-level average selling price 5%–10% below the three largest DRAM makers. The key distinction is that chip prices and finished-module prices are not the same thing.
What the reported price comparison actually shows
Tom’s Hardware reported on July 26, 2026, a JD.com listing comparison based on observations by @harukaze5719. A 64GB DDR5-5600 registered DIMM (RDIMM) using CXMT memory was listed for 18,999 CNY; comparable modules using Samsung or SK hynix memory were listed for 18,595 CNY. The CXMT-based module was about 2.2% more expensive in that observed example.
This is a historical China-market listing comparison for server memory, not a current quote, a contract price, or a comparison of desktop RAM. It does not establish prices for every CXMT product, other regions, or other sellers. The report also noted an Amazon listing for a Samsung-branded module with the same capacity and specification, but it does not establish a current U.S. price comparison.
Why a cheaper chip estimate can coexist with a pricier module
ChosunBiz reported that SemiAnalysis estimated CXMT’s average DRAM selling price in Q1 2026 was about 5%–10% below Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron. That is a manufacturer-level estimate for DRAM, not the retail price of a completed memory module. The article said the actual CXMT chip quotes available to individual customers were not publicly known.

- Boosts System Performance: 32GB DDR5 RAM laptop memory kit (2x16GB) that operates at 5600MHz, 5200MHz, or 4800MHz to improve multitasking and system responsiveness for smoother performance
- Accelerated gaming performance: Every millisecond gained in fast-paced gameplay counts—power through heavy workloads and benefit from versatile downclocking and higher frame rates
- Optimized DDR5 compatibility: Best for 12th Gen Intel Core and AMD Ryzen 7000 Series processors — Intel XMP 3.0 and AMD EXPO also supported on the same RAM module
- Trusted Micron Quality: Backed by 42 years of memory expertise, this DDR5 RAM is rigorously tested at both component and module levels, ensuring top performance and reliability
- ECC Type = Non-ECC, Form Factor = SODIMM, Pin Count = 262-Pin, PC Speed = PC5-44800, Voltage = 1.1V, Rank And Configuration = 1Rx8
A finished module’s price reflects more than the DRAM chips inside it. Module assembly, seller and distribution costs, inventory, region, and listing conditions can all affect the price. So the two observations answer different questions: the estimate suggests a chip-level discount, while the JD.com snapshot shows no discount in one finished RDIMM listing.
For a meaningful comparison, match the product type and specification: RDIMM against RDIMM, not a server module against a desktop UDIMM; the same capacity, DDR generation, rated speed, and configuration; and the same region, seller conditions, and observation date. Also distinguish a module built with CXMT chips from one using chips from a named incumbent.

Why another supplier has not automatically made memory cheap
AI demand is pulling on several kinds of DRAM
TrendForce’s September 2026 industry analysis says AI servers are driving demand for both high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and conventional DRAM. Suppliers are prioritizing server applications, tightening the supply available to other buyers. TrendForce also reported that higher costs were prompting PC and smartphone buyers to consider lower-capacity memory configurations.
The pressure is not limited to HBM. ChosunBiz, citing SemiAnalysis, described strong AI-related demand for HBM and high-capacity server DRAM as a factor in tighter DDR4 and DDR5 supply. An additional supplier can expand buyers’ options without immediately creating enough surplus to force broad price cuts.

CXMT’s scale and product mix matter
ChosunBiz reported CXMT at around 8% of DRAM market share in July 2026, a source- and date-specific estimate. It described the company’s revenue as coming mainly from commodity DDR and LPDDR, with limited HBM output. TrendForce later reported that CXMT’s server revenue had surpassed its mobile revenue for the first time. That signals a changing mix, but it does not make CXMT interchangeable with the leading suppliers across every DRAM segment.
Cost may limit how far CXMT can undercut rivals
SemiAnalysis estimated, as reported by ChosunBiz, that CXMT’s per-bit DDR5 manufacturing cost was more than 30% above that of market leaders. This is an attributed estimate, not an audited cost disclosure. If CXMT’s costs are higher, it may have less room to cut prices aggressively while remaining profitable; the estimate does not establish how any particular module seller set its listing price.

Price forecasts are not realized prices
A January 2026 S&P Global Market Intelligence article citing Visible Alpha consensus estimates projected year-over-year increases in conventional DRAM revenue per bit for 2026: 116% for Samsung, 78% for SK hynix, and 54% for Micron. These were forecasts published at that time, not confirmed final results or a direct measure of what a buyer would pay for a module.
The outlook also remains uncertain. Tom’s Hardware reported on October 1, 2026, that Micron CEO and chair Sanjay Mehrotra said on the company’s FY 2026 earnings call, “We do not have line of sight to when supply and demand will return to balance.” The same report said Micron expected demand to exceed supply in 2027 and 2028. That is Micron’s forecast, not a guaranteed industry outcome.

Quick Recap
What buyers should take away
- The July 2026 JD.com comparison shows that one 64GB DDR5-5600 CXMT-based server RDIMM listing was slightly more expensive than comparable Samsung- or SK hynix-based modules.
- The separate 5%–10% discount estimate concerns CXMT’s Q1 2026 DRAM selling prices, not finished-module retail pricing.
- Neither figure establishes what equivalent memory costs today in another market, or whether CXMT is cheaper across consumer and server products.
- AI-related demand, supplier product priorities, and differences in manufacturing cost help explain why an additional supplier has not necessarily translated into a conspicuous bargain.
