Cardano’s ADA rose 10% in the 24 hours covered by CoinDesk’s Oct. 5, 2026 report, topping $0.27 and reaching its highest price since May. Bitcoin and Ether gained much less in the same window. CoinDesk said the reason for ADA’s outperformance was unclear; RealFi interest and anticipation of a planned Cardano upgrade were possible sentiment factors, not confirmed causes.
How ADA compared with Bitcoin and Ether
CoinDesk’s Oct. 5, 2026 market report described a one-day move in an otherwise range-bound market. Its figures are historical observations from that reporting window, not current prices.

CoinDesk wrote, “The exact reason for ADA’s outperformance is hard to pin down.” The report raised stronger RealFi sentiment and anticipation of Cardano’s Dijkstra upgrade as possible contributors, but did not verify either as the cause. Those ideas are narratives to watch, not evidence that a specific event drove the price.

RealFi sentiment
The report mentioned RealFi as a possible sentiment factor, but the cited material does not quantify its influence on ADA or identify a specific RealFi development that explains the day’s gain.
Dijkstra upgrade expectations
Cardano’s official glossary describes Dijkstra as “The next Cardano ledger era and hard fork, named after Edsger Dijkstra.” It targets Phase 1 for late 2026, including Linear Leios and nested transactions, and plans Phase 2 for 2027, adding Peras. These are targets and plans, not guaranteed delivery dates. The glossary says the hard fork depends on ratification by DReps, stake pool operators, and the Constitutional Committee; Leios activation also requires stake pools to register the required BLS keys. Does the move mean ADA broke out?
Not on the evidence in this report alone. A 10% one-day rise is notable relative performance, but it does not establish a durable reversal or a breakout from a longer-term price pattern. CoinDesk characterized the broader market as range-bound and reported Bitcoin trading within a recent $84,000–$87,000 band. Its snapshot offers neither confirmation of an ADA-specific catalyst nor a prediction of what happens next.

CoinDesk also reported that the U.S. Dollar Index was at 102.53 early in the day, its highest level since April 2025 according to the article, after a Sept. 9 low of 98.60. It noted Bitcoin open interest of $22.0 billion, funding rates broadly between 4% and 10% annualized across venues, and $174 million in 24-hour liquidations. These are dated market and Bitcoin-derivatives observations, not explanations for ADA’s rise. The report also said dollar/crypto correlations suggested little link between the index and Bitcoin.

Custody is separate from the price move. Cardano Docs lists Trezor Model T, Ledger Nano S Plus, and Ledger Nano X as hardware-wallet options for ADA. A wallet controls access keys; the ADA itself remains recorded on the blockchain. A hardware device can be lost or damaged, so protecting the recovery information is part of managing custody.
