AI can make it easier to produce a software prototype, but a prototype is not the same as a product people want, trust, and rely on. The difficult work is still discovering a real problem, reaching the people who have it, and learning whether they will try a solution. If you have not started, begin with a problem you know firsthand—not with a plan to build an app.
What easier software building does—and does not—change
Tools that help people create software can lower the effort needed to make an early version. That is useful: a prototype can help explain an idea or test part of a workflow. But producing a working demo does not establish that customers need it, that it will work reliably in everyday use, or that a business can reach and support those customers.

That gap is easy to miss when making the first version feels like the main obstacle. In his article, Bartosz Siminski puts the risk plainly: “A founder who builds faster without having those conversations may simply reach the wrong destination sooner.” Read Siminski’s article on DEV Community.
Start with a problem you understand from the inside
Firsthand experience can help you notice friction that an outsider might overlook. Siminski illustrates this with a finance director who knows a particular workflow and can speak with people who deal with it. That familiarity could help the founder ask sharper questions and identify potential users; it is an illustrative scenario, not a verified case study or guarantee of success.

- BUILD LARGER BREADBOARD CIRCUITS - Create LED indicators, button inputs, traffic-light sequences, light-activated circuits, RGB effects, buzzer alarms and other electronics experiments on the included 830-point breadboard
- 300+ PARTS FOR REPEATABLE EXPERIMENTS - Includes an 830-point solderless breadboard, power module, rigid and solderless jumper wires, Dupont wires, potentiometer, LEDs, resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, buttons and buzzers
- LEARN HOW CORE COMPONENTS WORK - Use the 74HC595 to expand outputs, the 4N35 optocoupler to explore signal isolation, PN2222 transistors to switch compatible loads and 1N4007 diodes for polarity-protection and rectification experiments
- POWER AND REWIRE PROJECTS QUICKLY - Use the breadboard power module for selectable 3.3 V or 5 V rails, with ample board space for ICs and multi-stage circuits; use a suitable 6.5–9 V DC input and do not exceed 9 V
- COMPONENT KIT WITH CLEAR EXPECTATIONS - A controller board, programming cable and wall adapter are not included; use a compatible controller for coded projects and follow the digital tutorial, datasheets and wiring guidance
Before building, try to describe the problem in concrete terms: who encounters it, what they do now, and what makes the current approach difficult. Then consider whether you can reach those people and learn from them. An idea that sounds appealing in isolation is weaker evidence than a person who recognizes the problem and is willing to try a better way.
Why users may hesitate even when the idea sounds useful
People do not adopt software solely because it exists. A new product may ask them to change an established process, trust a new supplier with sensitive information, or depend on a system that must work when needed. Those concerns create work beyond the prototype: understanding what users require, earning trust, and making the product dependable.

- BOJACK high quality Solderless Breadboard Assortment Kit
- Breadboard is a solderless device for temporary prototype with electronics and test circuit designs. Most electronic components in electronic circuits can be interconnected by inserting their leads or terminals into the holes and then making connections through wires where appropriate.
- The breadboard has strips of metal underneath the board and connect the holes on the top of the board. Note that the top and bottom rows of holes are connected horizontally and split in the middle while the remaining holes are connected vertically.
- The Breadboards Can be Spliced According to the Unit, the Structure is Clear in Color.
- Material: ABS Plastic Panel, Tin Plated Phosphor Bronze Contact Sheet.
Distribution and support matter, too. A useful tool still has to reach the people who need it, fit into their working routines, and be supported when something goes wrong. The specific requirements vary by product, especially where sensitive data or critical workflows are involved; a quick demo cannot answer all of those questions.

A 2025 report by Kyle Poyar, published by ChartMogul, offers one measure of how demanding software-company growth can be: one out of every fifty startups in the report’s analyzed sample reached $25 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) within ten years of first monetization. The report examined anonymized, aggregated data from 6,525 software companies. It started the clock at initial monetization, used a ten-year window, and accounted for cohorts because many companies had not yet been observed for a full decade. It also notes survivorship and selection considerations. Read the ChartMogul report and its methodology.

- Header Connector - 10 pieces 40 pin male header, 10 pieces 40 pin pitch right angle male headers, 10 pieces 40 pin female header; pitch: 2.54mm, single row and straight connector
- Screw Terminal Block - 8 pieces 5.08-301-2P and 5 pieces 5.08-301-3P ; pitch: 5.08mm, rated voltage: 300V, rated current: 16A
- Jumper caps - 30 pieces standard 2.54mm pin spacing circuit board jumper cap in 6 colors, 5 pieces per color
- Environmental and Elegant Packaging - Compact paper package take little footprint
This figure describes a specific high-revenue milestone in that dataset—not the odds that any person who tries to start a software company will succeed, and not the likelihood that a small, sustainable software business can be built. It is a reminder to separate “I made something” from “I found a repeatable way to serve customers and grow.”

Siminski’s recommendation is deliberately modest: choose a problem you know from firsthand experience, speak privately with five people who face it, and build the smallest version one person is willing to try. Treat this as a way to learn, not a proven formula for startup success.

- Name the workflow. Describe one task or process that causes recurring difficulty, and identify the people who encounter it.
- Ask about their current experience. Speak privately with five people who face the problem. Learn how they handle it now and what makes it frustrating or costly. Do not lead with a pitch or assume they want your proposed solution.
- Look for willingness to try. Pay attention to whether someone wants a better way enough to test one. Positive comments alone are not the same as a commitment to use a solution.
- Make only what the test needs. Build the smallest version that lets one willing person try the central idea. Avoid treating extra features as a substitute for learning from use.
- Use the result to choose a next step. What the person does with the test can help you decide what to improve, what remains uncertain, or whether to stop. The exercise does not guarantee demand or a viable business.
Siminski’s closing advice is: “This week, speak privately with five people who face it. If one of them wants a better way, build the smallest version they are willing to try.” The useful starting question is simple: what is one workflow you know from the inside, and who could you speak with about it this week?
