First check where the messages are missing: a conversation may be filed under Spam & locked or Archived inside your messaging app, while a lock-screen setting can hide only the notification preview. Identify whether you use Samsung Messages or Google Messages before following steps, because menus and app availability vary by Galaxy model, software version, and region.
Are the messages missing from the app, or just from the lock screen?
Open your messaging app and look for the conversation. If it is absent from the conversation list, check the app’s message categories. If the conversation is there but its text does not appear in a notification while the phone is locked, check notification privacy settings instead. These are separate issues: hiding a lock-screen preview does not move or lock the conversation.

Find Spam & locked and Archived
In the messaging app, tap More options (the menu icon) and look for Spam & locked. Samsung’s guidance documents this category, and its older Android Messages guidance describes the same location. Menu names and availability can differ by app version, device, or region, so the category may not appear exactly as shown in every Galaxy setup. Samsung’s guide to finding spam messages and Google’s Messages help explain the relevant categories.
Check Archived separately. An archived conversation is not the same as one in Spam & locked; archiving removes it from the main conversation list without deleting it. If you find it in Archived, use the app’s unarchive option to return it to the inbox.

Confirm which messaging app your Galaxy uses
Galaxy phones may use Samsung Messages or Google Messages, and the app available on your phone depends on its model, software, and region. Samsung’s India guidance says Samsung Messages is not preinstalled on Galaxy S25 smartphones. Samsung’s US support page says, “Samsung Messages will be discontinued on Galaxy devices running Android 12 or newer starting July 6, 2026,” and says it is not available for download on those devices. Check the app you actually have rather than assuming a menu path from another Galaxy applies. Samsung India’s Google Messages guide and Samsung US’s Samsung Messages support page provide regional details.
Show message content in lock-screen notifications
If the conversation is visible in Google Messages but its text is hidden only in notifications while the phone is locked, Samsung’s India guide gives this path: Google Messages > profile icon > Messages settings > Notifications > Show or hide content when locked. This controls whether notification content is displayed on the locked screen; it does not locate messages filed under Spam & locked or Archived. The exact option may vary with software and region. If the conversation is still missing
Use the recovery option that matches the app and the message’s state. Do not treat a message in Spam & locked as deleted: it is a different category.
- Google Messages: Check Archived and unarchive the conversation if it is there. Samsung’s recovery guidance distinguishes archived conversations, which can be restored, from deleted Google Messages texts, which it says are permanently deleted.
- Samsung Messages: If the message was deleted and is in Trash, use the app’s restore option. Availability depends on the app and device.
- Backup: If the messages were included in an existing Samsung Cloud or other backup, use that backup’s restore process. Restoration depends on having a relevant backup; it cannot recover messages that were never backed up.
Samsung outlines these distinctions in its guide to finding and recovering text messages. Avoid clearing app data or resetting the phone as an initial attempt; those actions can risk data and are not established fixes for this symptom.

If texts are not arriving at all
A missing conversation is different from a failure to send or receive new texts. For a sending or receiving problem, Samsung recommends checking carrier service and signal, confirming the correct messaging app, restarting the phone, and clearing that app’s cache. Those general checks do not explain why a particular locked conversation is missing. Follow Samsung’s text-message troubleshooting guide for that separate issue.

If you cannot find Spam & locked or the notification option, note your messaging app, phone model, Android and One UI versions, region, and whether the conversation itself or only its notification is absent. Those details matter because Samsung’s instructions and app availability are not identical across Galaxy devices.
