Most AI video tools do not accept Blender’s .blend project file as a video-generation input. A Blender project stores a 3D scene; a generator may instead expect a rendered image, video, or audio file. Check the exact tool, model, and upload field, then export the kind of file it names. Blender’s ability to export 3D formats does not mean the AI tool can import them.
Why a Blender file may not import
“Import” can mean several different things: supplying a still image as a visual reference, uploading a video clip for editing or generation, or bringing a 3D asset into a scene. Those workflows need different inputs. There is no universal file list for AI video tools, and accepted formats can vary by product, model, or feature.

A .blend file is a Blender project, not a rendered video. It can contain a scene’s geometry, materials, lighting, animation, and other editable data. A video generator that accepts rendered media cannot necessarily read that scene structure. Runway’s documented generative inputs include images, video, and audio in specified formats; its listed formats do not include .blend (Runway supported file types).
First identify what the upload field accepts
- Name the exact tool, model, and feature. An image-to-video generator, a video editor, and a 3D scene importer may each have different requirements.
- Read the help page for that specific upload field. Look for accepted input types, file extensions, codecs, and any size, duration, dimension, or frame-rate limits. Do not assume that a tool described as an “AI video” product accepts 3D projects.
- Match your export to the requested input. If the field asks for a video, render a clip from Blender. If it asks for an image reference, render a still. Use a 3D interchange format only when the destination explicitly says it accepts 3D assets.
Choose the right Blender export
If the tool wants a video
Render the Blender scene as a video, then use a container and codec the target tool lists. For example, Runway’s supported-file guide lists MP4 with H.264 among its accepted combinations and recommends trying H.264 in an MP4 container if a file-type or codec error occurs (Runway supported file types). The extension alone is not enough: a video container and the codec used inside it both matter.
#1 Best Overall
- Core Functionality: This tamper tool is designed to fit directly into the blender container, allowing you to safely push down ingredients for efficient blending without contacting the blades
- Material Safety: Made from high level of quality plastic that is free from any peculiar odors, this tamper tool is the safe and healthy accessory for your kitchen blending needs
- Wide Compatibility: Suitable for various machines including wall breaking machines, soybean milk machines, smoothie makers, and cooking machines, making this blender replacement part versatile
- Easy Maintenance: This blender tamper tool is dishwasher safe, allowing for convenient daily cleaning to maintain hygiene and optimal performance
- Nutritional Optimization: By gently guiding ingredients towards the blades without direct contact, this tamper tool helps maximize the nutritional value retained in your blended foods
If the tool wants an image reference
Render a still frame or image from Blender in a supported image format. Check the selected model’s documented image dimensions and other limits. Runway Gen-4.5, for example, documents both text-to-video and image-to-video workflows, so an image can be appropriate there when using the image-to-video feature (Runway Gen-4.5 documentation).
If the tool explicitly accepts 3D assets
Export a format named by the destination, rather than choosing one just because Blender supports it. Blender’s format overview lists options including glTF 2.0 (.glb and .gltf), USD, OBJ, PLY, STL, and FBX. These are 3D interchange formats, not rendered-video substitutes. Data and features may not transfer identically between applications, so confirm what the receiving tool supports and what it preserves (Blender 5.3 import and export manual; Blender pipeline overview).
Troubleshoot a rejected upload
- Unsupported file type: Confirm the required input type and extension for the exact model or feature. If it expects rendered media, export a still or video instead of uploading
.blend. - Codec or container error: Check both. If Runway reports a file-type or codec problem, its guide suggests trying H.264 video in an MP4 container (Runway supported file types).
- Listed format, but upload still fails: Check the tool’s limits for file size, image dimensions, video duration, frame rate, and codec. These requirements can differ between features; do not apply one model’s limits to another.
- 3D export opens but looks different: Confirm which scene data the destination supports. A successful export does not guarantee that materials, lighting, animation, or other Blender features will transfer as they appear in the original project.
What each file type is for
| File or category | What it contains | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
.blend |
A Blender project with editable scene data. | Keep working in Blender, or use it with a destination that specifically supports Blender projects. |
3D interchange format, such as .glb, .gltf, USD, OBJ, PLY, STL, or FBX |
3D asset data exported for transfer between applications; feature preservation depends on the format and receiving software. | Only when the target explicitly accepts that 3D format. |
| Rendered image | A still image produced from the Blender scene. | When the tool requests an image or visual reference and the image meets its requirements. |
| Rendered video | A clip produced from the Blender scene in a chosen container and codec. | When the tool requests a video clip and supports the chosen container and codec. |
Blender describes its own format support as interoperability with other software across many formats and codecs (Blender pipeline overview). That describes Blender’s export capabilities; the receiving AI tool’s documentation determines whether a particular file can be uploaded.
