The most reliable fix is to treat each shot as part of a planned sequence: reuse references and descriptions, keep each clip focused, manage dialogue deliberately, then assemble and pace the best takes in an editor. References can improve continuity, but they do not guarantee identical results.
Why details drift between AI-generated shots
Video models accept different combinations of text, image, audio, and video inputs, and their continuity controls vary. If a later shot is generated without the same reference context or explicit direction as the earlier one, the model has less information to reproduce its details. That is a practical workflow explanation—not a claim about every model’s internal workings or a guarantee that any particular prompt will succeed.

Voice and timing can drift when one segment is asked to carry too much dialogue or too many beats. OpenAI’s Sora 2 prompting guide cautions that long, complex speeches may sync poorly and disrupt pacing.
Build continuity into the workflow
1. Define what must stay the same
Before generating shots, write a compact continuity sheet for the character or subject. Record the stable details that matter: appearance, clothing, voice description, setting, and visual style. Repeat those details consistently in each shot’s direction.

When the model supports reusable character assets or image references, use them rather than relying only on wording such as “the same character.” OpenAI documents reusable character references in its Sora 2 prompting guide. Google’s Veo API documentation describes reference images for guiding content and preserving the appearance of a person, character, or product, with up to three reference images documented for Veo 3.1.
Veo 3 models also have a documented seed parameter. Treat a seed as a repeatability control to test within that model, not as a lock that guarantees the same character across shots or systems.

2. Separate subject identity from visual style
If a tool lets you assign different roles to references, make clear which reference defines the subject and which defines the look. ElevenLabs’ reference guide describes this distinction for Veo: a subject reference guides the subject or scene elements, while a style reference transfers visual style. The guide notes that valid fields and combinations depend on the model.
3. Give each shot one clear job
Describe one principal action, a camera instruction, and a defined starting or ending state for each shot. Avoid changing the character, location, visual style, and camera movement all at once unless those changes are intentional. Where supported, first- and last-frame controls can help direct how a shot begins and ends; Google documents these controls for Veo in its video generation documentation. They guide a shot but do not guarantee continuity across an entire sequence.

- Enhanced Screen Recording - Capture screen & webcam together, export as separate clips, and adjust placement in your final project.
- Color Adjustment Controls - Automatically improve image color, contrast, and quality of your videos.
- Frame Interpolation - Transform grainy footage into smoother, more detailed scenes by seamlessly adding AI-generated frames. (feature available on Intel AI PCs only)

- Brand Kits - Manage assets, colors, and designs to keep your video content consistent and memorable.
4. Keep dialogue manageable and control voice separately
Write dialogue to fit the shot rather than asking the model to squeeze a long speech into a short clip. For longer narration, consider generating one continuous voice track separately and cutting the visuals to its timing. If the model supports audio references, supply them consistently; ElevenLabs’ reference guide describes audio reference inputs for supported models.
5. Generate short clips, then edit the sequence
Generate manageable shots, choose the strongest takes, and assemble them in an editor. Editing lets you trim pauses, adjust cut points, and set the sequence’s rhythm without asking one generation to solve every timing problem. OpenAI’s Sora 2 prompting guide gives a project-dependent example in which stitching two four-second clips may work better than generating one eight-second clip; it is not a universal maximum or rule.

Troubleshoot the problem you see
| What changes | What to check or try |
|---|---|
| Face, clothing, or product appearance | Check that the same subject reference and stable identity description are supplied. Reference-image guidance is documented for reusable characters and subjects by OpenAI and Google. |
| Color palette or rendering style | Check the style reference, if supported, and repeat the style direction consistently. ElevenLabs explains subject and style reference roles in its guide. |
| Voice changes between clips | Check whether the model supports voice or audio references and whether the same reference is supplied to each clip. Consider a separate voice track for longer narration; supported audio reference inputs are described by ElevenLabs. |
| Speech feels rushed or falls out of sync | Shorten the line or split it across shots. OpenAI’s prompting guide warns that long, complex speeches may sync poorly and disrupt pacing. |
| The sequence feels uneven overall | Adjust clip selection, cut points, and shot duration in the editor rather than trying to repair every pacing issue in generation. |
Check the controls for your exact model and version
Reference limits, duration, resolution, audio options, frame controls, and model availability change. Check the documentation for the exact product and version you plan to use rather than assuming that a brand name implies a particular feature set.

Google separately documents start- and end-frame direction in its video generation documentation. Confirm current API details and availability in your region before relying on a specific control.
ElevenLabs says reference fields and constraints differ by model in its reference guide; check the current model-specific requirements. OpenAI’s Sora product page describes starting from a prompt or image and editing characters or scenes, but product features and availability may change.
Choose a workflow by the controls you need
When comparing tools, look for the specific controls your project requires rather than assuming one model is universally more consistent. Check for reusable character or subject references, style references, voice or audio reference support, first- and last-frame controls, clip extension, practical shot duration, and editor control over cuts, audio, and pacing. Verify these features in current official documentation for the model and version you intend to use.
