Bandai Namco says ACE COMBAT ZERO: THE BELKAN WAR cannot currently be released on Steam as a standalone application because of “licensing restrictions and platform-related considerations.” On Steam, Zero is offered through ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE, although the reported store description says its DLC executable can launch separately from the main game. The publisher has not identified the specific licenses or platform rules behind the arrangement, and it has not promised to change it.
What Bandai Namco has said
In a clarification on Steam, the ACE COMBAT Team said Zero “cannot currently be released on Steam as a standalone application” because of “licensing restrictions and platform-related considerations.” That is the publisher’s public explanation. It does not specify which licenses are involved, name aircraft manufacturers, describe contractual clauses, or identify a particular Steam rule. ACE COMBAT Team’s Steam clarification
The team apologized for not making Zero’s distribution method clear earlier. It said it was reviewing player feedback and exploring possible options with platform partners, but added: “At this time, we cannot guarantee that any changes will be made.” So a standalone Steam release is not confirmed.
What “separated” means on Steam
There are two different questions: can Zero be launched separately, and can it be obtained as a standalone Steam application? The reported Steam store wording supports the first: PC Gamer reported that the description was changed to say the “Steam Version” is a DLC executable launched separately from the base game. The publisher’s clarification answers the second: Zero is currently distributed through ACE COMBAT 8, not as a standalone Steam application. PC Gamer’s report

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
In other words, a separate launch does not mean a separate Steam product or an independent purchase. The reported wording describes how the DLC executable starts; it does not override the publisher’s statement about how Zero is distributed.
How Zero is being offered with ACE COMBAT 8
Bandai Namco announced ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE for October 2, 2026, and marketed the 2006 ACE COMBAT ZERO: THE BELKAN WAR as a preorder bonus. The publisher’s current European FAQ says the included Zero is a port of the original game, not a remaster. Bonus eligibility and edition terms can differ by region and platform, so check the local listing rather than assuming the same offer applies everywhere. What players may give up with the Steam arrangement
PC Gamer reported player complaints about not having separate Zero achievements or separate cloud saves on Steam. Those are reported concerns, not a guarantee about every account or platform feature; the publisher’s clarification does not provide a detailed feature-by-feature explanation.
The same PC Gamer article recorded one installation on its author Wes Fenlon’s SSD: ACE COMBAT 8 occupied 140.24 GB and the Zero DLC 3.2 GB. Those figures describe that particular installation, not official storage requirements or a universal install size. PC Gamer’s report

Where ACE COMBAT 8 is available
Bandai Namco Europe lists ACE COMBAT 8 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a release date of October 2, 2026. Its FAQ also says a physical PS5 edition is available in some markets through participating retailers. Availability and preorder bonuses vary by region and platform. A console edition is another platform option, not a fix to the Steam package arrangement; the available information does not establish that console versions eliminate every dependency between the games.
