Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf a saved password won’t fill in Safari on your Mac, first check Safari > Settings > AutoFill and make sure Usernames and passwords is selected. Then confirm the website’s login is actually saved in Passwords. If both are correct, check excluded sites, Private Browsing, iCloud Keychain, and whether Safari can recognize that site’s login form.
1. Turn on Safari’s password AutoFill
In Safari, choose Safari > Settings > AutoFill and select Usernames and passwords. This setting lets Safari offer credentials saved for websites when you revisit them. If it was already selected, continue to the saved-password entry rather than changing unrelated browser settings. Apple’s Safari troubleshooting guide and AutoFill settings guide describe this option.

2. Check that the right password is saved
Where you find passwords depends on macOS: on macOS Sequoia, open the Passwords app; on macOS Sonoma or earlier, use Apple menu > System Settings > Passwords or Safari > Settings > Passwords. Unlock the list and search for the website or account. Apple documents these locations in Find saved passwords and passkeys on your Mac.
Recommended Free Tools
- Choose All rather than viewing only one password group. The entry may be in a different group than expected.
- Check Deleted or Recently Deleted if the credential is missing from the main list.
- Open the matching entry and verify that it contains the correct username and a password. A blank password or an entry marked as never saved cannot provide a password to fill.
- If it is a shared-group item, check whether the Mac’s software is compatible with that group; Apple says shared items appear only on compatible devices.
If the entry is blank or was never saved, Apple’s guidance is to change the password on the website and save it when Safari offers to do so. See Apple’s instructions for AutoFill problems.

- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
3. Remove the site from Safari’s excluded list
A site may have been excluded from password saving. In the Passwords app, choose Passwords > Settings > Show excluded websites. If the website appears there, remove it. The next time you enter your credentials, Safari can ask whether to save them. Apple explains this in See the websites you excluded from automatically filling in passwords on Mac.
4. Treat Touch ID as an optional check
Touch ID autofill is separate from Safari’s general username-and-password AutoFill setting. If you use Touch ID and your Mac or keyboard has compatible Touch ID hardware, open Apple menu > System Settings > Touch ID & Password and turn on Use Touch ID for autofilling passwords. A Mac without Touch ID can still use saved-password AutoFill; this feature is not a requirement. See Apple’s Safari password autofill guide.

5. Check Private Browsing and iCloud Keychain
Private Browsing
Safari does not save account names and passwords while Private Browsing is on, according to Apple’s iCloud Keychain troubleshooting guidance. If Safari has not offered to save a recent login, check whether the browsing window is private and try again in a regular window.

6. If only one website still fails
With AutoFill enabled and a valid saved entry, Safari may still fail on an individual site. Apple notes that a site may request that credentials not be saved or autofilled, or Safari may be unable to identify the page’s username and password fields. In those cases, toggling the Mac’s settings cannot guarantee a fix; the problem may be specific to the site’s login page. Apple’s AutoFill troubleshooting page covers these limitations.
These navigation paths are for Safari on Mac. Other browsers may use different settings and password stores, so an Apple Passwords entry does not by itself establish that another browser will fill it.
