AAA/AA studios appear to have made few large-scale games built around a fully integrated, story-driven rise to fame. The likeliest explanation is commercial and creative risk: expensive games are harder to greenlight when their core loop does not fit a familiar genre. That is an industry-level inference, not evidence that a publisher considered and rejected this exact concept.
Has the rise-to-fame premise already been used?
Yes, in adjacent forms. The distinction is that a celebrity career appears as one part of another kind of game, or as an authored interactive story, rather than as the central loop of a large-scale career RPG. That is a market observation, not proof that no qualifying game has ever existed.

| Game | What it offers | How it differs from a dedicated story RPG |
|---|---|---|
| The Sims 4 Get Famous | EA describes acting work and a path to celebrity, including becoming an A-lister. | Fame progression sits inside an expansion to a life simulator; the expansion is not presented as a dedicated rise-to-fame story RPG. |
| The Fame Game: Welcome to Hollywood | Steam describes a 2025 interactive FMV story about an ordinary man becoming a TV-show lead actor and climbing Hollywood’s ladder. Matt Dean Films calls it a narrative-driven dating sim. | Its format emphasizes an authored, branching story and romance rather than a broad, systemic career RPG. Steam’s user-defined tags, including “RPG,” are not a rigorous genre classification. |
These games show that the fantasy has been explored; they do not establish how many players want a dedicated version or how commercially successful one would be.
Why do production costs make a new concept a tougher pitch?
A publisher weighing a new intellectual property has to believe that its unfamiliar premise can support a game large enough to justify the investment. McKinsey’s 2025 analysis says AAA production budgets often exceed $200 million and describes projects taking three to five years and costing $200 million to $500 million. Those are broad estimates, not a budget rule for every AAA title.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Other reported figures illustrate the scale, but they use different scopes and evidence and should not be read as a like-for-like comparison:
| Figure | What it measures and who reported it |
|---|---|
| $174 million | Cyberpunk 2077 total development cost, disclosed by CD Projekt Red after launch and reported by Omdia in 2025. |
| $212 million | Horizon Forbidden West figure reported by Omdia in 2025 as disclosed. |
| Estimated $300 million | Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 estimate reported by Omdia in 2025; not a confirmed company disclosure. |
| $700 million | Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War lifetime costs, reported by Omdia in 2025 from a court filing—not development costs alone. |
Omdia’s 2025 analysis also points to rising graphical expectations and hardware competition, alongside slower market growth and marketing costs, as pressures on investment decisions. The figures above help show why a novel pitch may face scrutiny; they do not demonstrate that cost alone explains the absence of a particular game.

Former PlayStation executive Shawn Layden has made the risk argument directly. GameSpot reported him saying, “Today, the entry costs for making a AAA game is in triple-digit millions now. I think, naturally, risk tolerance drops.” Layden’s view is industry commentary, not a measured causal study. He argues that higher costs encourage sequels and copycats and have contributed to a contraction in the AA space.
What makes a fame RPG harder to design than its premise sounds?
The design challenge is an inference, not a reason confirmed by a named studio. A convincing career RPG would need its systems to reinforce one another rather than reduce success to filling a fame meter:

- Work and advancement: auditions, roles, performances or other opportunities would need to create understandable routes forward, with meaningful setbacks as well as rewards.
- Skills and reputation: getting better at the work should affect which opportunities become available, while public and professional reputations could open some doors and close others.
- Relationships and personal choices: career decisions may affect partners, friends, collaborators or rivals; those relationships need consequences that matter beyond a single scene.
- Public image and audience reaction: publicity could change demand and reputation, but would need rules players can understand rather than arbitrary swings.
- Persistent progression: choices across the story should shape a career trajectory, not just select the next episode or branch.
A familiar fantasy RPG can lean on established quest and combat loops. A fame game would need to make work itself compelling, while balancing career, relationships and public attention. Offering many industries or branching paths could also multiply writing, animation, voice and quality-assurance work. That is a plausible production and design burden, not a documented explanation from a specific developer.
What would a more manageable version look like?
A smaller-scope concept could concentrate on one entertainment industry and a limited set of consequential career choices, with reputation and relationships connected to the same progression system. That would narrow the number of careers and story branches a team must support while preserving the central fantasy of building a public life through decisions. It is a design possibility, not a known studio plan or proven commercial formula.

What can be concluded about player demand?
The examples establish that the premise has appeared in games, but they do not establish demand for a dedicated AAA/AA story RPG. Individual community questions are not a representative survey, and product listings, tags or review counts cannot by themselves show the size of a market. The defensible answer is therefore limited: this concept seems underrepresented among obvious large-scale releases, while the reasons for that gap are best understood as a mix of greenlight risk and the challenge of making its systems cohere—not as proof that players would not want it.
