Microsoft is the parent company. In an October 16, 2023 announcement, Microsoft and Activision Blizzard described the legal structure as “Activision Blizzard surviving the Merger as a wholly owned subsidiary of Microsoft.” Microsoft’s October 27 announcement likewise called it a wholly owned subsidiary.

How much did Microsoft pay?
Microsoft’s 2025 annual report gives the completed acquisition’s total purchase price as $75.4 billion, consisting primarily of cash. That is the figure Microsoft reported for the completed transaction.
A different figure appears in Microsoft’s 2023 annual report: the January 2022 agreement was announced at $95 per share, or $68.7 billion inclusive of Activision Blizzard’s net cash. That describes the agreement when it was announced, not the later reported total purchase price. The two figures refer to different reporting contexts and should not be treated as interchangeable. Did Microsoft buy Activision Blizzard?
Yes. Microsoft completed the acquisition in October 2023. The companies’ legal description and Microsoft’s subsequent reporting establish both the parent-subsidiary relationship and the inclusion of Activision Blizzard’s financial results in Microsoft’s consolidated accounts.
