Union City Councilmember Scott Sakakihara and Republican Linda R. Price are the candidates in California State Senate District 10’s November 3, 2026, general election. California’s voter-nominated top-two primary advanced the two highest vote-getters regardless of party; the official sources reviewed here do not provide district-specific primary totals.
Who are the candidates?
The California Secretary of State’s certified list for the June 2, 2026, primary included seven candidates for District 10. Five were Democrats—David Cohen, Anne Kepner, Raymond Liu, Carmen Montano and Scott Sakakihara—and two were Republicans, Linda R. Price and another candidate. KQED identifies Sakakihara and Price as the general-election candidates. Scott Sakakihara
The City of Union City lists Sakakihara as its District 4 councilmember. His campaign describes him as a former vice mayor, regional housing leader, U.S. Navy Reserve officer and attorney, and as a husband and father of three. Linda R. Price
Price’s official primary ballot designation was “Businesswoman.” KQED’s candidate profile describes her as a former human-resources director and executive coach, and notes that she previously ran for a school-board seat in the Fremont Union High School District. Why are they facing each other?
California uses a voter-nominated top-two primary for state legislative races. As the Secretary of State’s voter guide explains: “In the primary election, the two candidates receiving the most votes—regardless of party preference—move on to the general election.” A candidate can advance even if both finalists share a party, and winning a majority in the primary does not remove the general election. The primary took place June 2, 2026. The Secretary of State announced certification of the November general-election candidate list on August 27. The official material available here confirms Sakakihara and Price as the finalists but does not give verified District 10 vote totals; it therefore does not establish their totals or margin. Where is Senate District 10?
Sakakihara’s campaign describes District 10 as including Fremont, Fairview, Hayward, Newark, Union City, Milpitas, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, portions of San Jose, and the communities of Alum Rock and East Foothills. That is the campaign’s description; an official district boundary map was not available in the sources cited here. Sakakihara campaign.
What can voters compare?
KQED’s race coverage raises questions relevant to the contest, including what candidates would do in the state Senate to reduce residents’ costs and whether they would support a proposed tax on California billionaires to help fund Medi-Cal. Those are useful subjects for comparison, but the available material does not establish both candidates’ complete answers. When is the election?
The general election is November 3, 2026. The Secretary of State’s August 27 announcement said military and overseas ballots could be sent as early as September 4, and counties had to begin mailing other ballots by October 5.
