Petri Alanko is a Finnish composer, musician, sound designer and producer who also releases music as Lowland. He is associated with Remedy Entertainment’s games, including Control and Alan Wake 2. For the original Control, he composed the score with Martin Stig Andersen—not alone. That collaboration is useful context for understanding Alanko’s connection to Control Resonant, but the original game’s credits should not be mistaken for a solo-composer credit on the sequel.
Who is Petri Alanko?
Alanko is a Finnish composer, musician, sound designer and producer. His official biography describes him as three-times BAFTA nominated; that means nominations, not wins. It also identifies his electronic music releases under the name Lowland and his orchestral reinterpretation projects, including Classical Trancelations. Alanko’s official biography lists his Remedy game work across Alan Wake, Quantum Break, Control and Alan Wake 2.

Who composed the music for Control?
Petri Alanko and Martin Stig Andersen worked together on the original Control score. Remedy’s 2019 scoring announcement describes a complementary collaboration: Andersen brought experience with eerie composition, while Alanko contributed orchestral and electronic arrangements. The stated creative brief was music that could evolve with a world balancing recognizable reality and the unexplainable, and respond to surreal as well as action-heavy gameplay.
Ville Sorsa, Control’s Senior Audio Designer, summarized the goal: “We knew Control required a very specific form of music to fit the aesthetic vision.”

How did Alanko create Control’s unusual sound?
Alanko says he developed a special sound library for the game, including custom virtual instruments, and moved away from familiar tunings and harmonies to find a different musical angle. His official biography describes recording sounds from ordinary objects and instruments, then incorporating them into his work:
“I practically recorded everything for several months, including a clothes rack and a washing machine’s rotating drum, as well as a piano’s sound harp. Oh, and my espresso machine.”

This account shows why his role is described as both composer and sound designer: the process he recounts includes gathering and shaping raw sound material as well as writing music. It is Alanko’s own description of the Control process, rather than a separate technical production record.

Album-wide joint credit does not mean every track has identical authorship. Apple Music Classical lists Alanko as composer of tracks including “Et Ratio Principalis” and “Voces Ignotas,” and Andersen for “Counterfeit” and “Vantage.” For a specific piece, use its track-level credit rather than assuming the album’s shared credit applies equally to every composition. Apple Music Classical’s soundtrack listing provides track information.
What else has Petri Alanko composed?
Beyond the original Control, Alanko’s official biography names Remedy scores for Alan Wake, Quantum Break and Alan Wake 2. He also records as Lowland and has released orchestral reinterpretations through the Classical Trancelations projects. A September 2026 MusicRadar interview about Control Resonant describes his broader starting point for game work: he takes in project presentations and begins imagining sounds, feelings, harmonies and melodies from the material. That general workflow context does not establish that every detail of the original Control production carried over unchanged to the sequel.
