The Nintendo Switch 2 edition is scheduled for November 12, 2026, according to SEGA’s June 10, 2026 announcement. The official material identifies Gallica’s role but does not establish that she was newly introduced in a separate reveal event.
Who is Gallica in Metaphor: ReFantazio?
Gallica is a fairy who travels with the protagonist and guides him. The official character profile describes her as “The protagonist’s travelling companion and guide, who helps him carry out his mission to save the prince.” The site lists Alejandra Reynoso as her English voice actor and Sumire Morohoshi as her Japanese voice actor. ATLUS and SEGA’s official Switch 2 site does not provide a basis for attributing a particular personality, appearance, or additional powers to her.

What is Gallica’s role in the story?
The story unfolds in the United Kingdom of Euchronia after the king is assassinated. A royal magic sets a tournament in motion to determine who will take the throne. The protagonist and Gallica set out to break the curse on the prince, whom the kingdom believes is dead. To pursue that mission, they enter the tournament and form alliances with people from the world’s tribes. Gallica is therefore presented as a partner and travelling guide in the central quest, not simply as a character introduced for the Switch 2 edition.

SEGA announced the Nintendo Switch 2 edition on June 10, 2026, and set its release date for November 12, 2026. The announcement also introduced a first trailer, a new key visual, and the official Switch 2 website. Those are the announced Switch 2 materials; they do not document a separate first reveal of Gallica. SEGA’s announcement also lists a digital anniversary edition and early-purchase bonus details. Because bonus windows and store availability can change, check the relevant regional store for current terms.

Is the Switch 2 version physical or digital?
Both formats are represented in the official materials, but the listings describe specific editions and regions rather than a universal retail configuration.
| Option | What the official listing says | Buyer note |
|---|---|---|
| Physical standard edition | The official game site identifies it as a game-key card. | Confirm that the game-key card edition is offered in your region and check the package and retailer details. |
| Digital | Nintendo’s US product listing labels the version shown as digital and gives an estimated file size of 62.1 GB. | The size is Nintendo’s estimate for its US listing, not a stated requirement for every regional edition. The listing does not say that an optional storage card is required. |
Check the edition and format on the store page for your region before buying. Nintendo’s US listing also gives support for TV, tabletop, and handheld modes, and lists one player on a single system; those details refer to that listing, not necessarily every regional product page. Nintendo’s US listing names SEGA as publisher and ATLUS as developer.

What kind of game is Metaphor: ReFantazio?
Nintendo describes it as a fantasy role-playing game combining exploration, turn-based squad battles, real-time combat in the overworld, and time management. Its royal tournament and the effort to save the prince provide the story framework. The official Switch 2 materials also identify the game’s prior recognition: SEGA’s announcement reports three awards at The Game Awards 2024, including Best RPG, and the Grand Award at the Japan Game Awards 2025. These are awards for the game, not Switch 2-specific honors.
