Google has not made Gemini 4 Argon generally available. As of October 3, 2026, it is rolling the model out first to trusted cyber defenders through its Fairwind Program; Google says broader access is planned for developers, enterprises and consumers, beginning with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers, but has not given a date. [Google]
What is Gemini 4 Argon?
“Gemini 4” in Google’s September 30, 2026 announcement refers to Gemini 4 Argon, a frontier model the company positions for complex software engineering, enterprise knowledge work and cybersecurity defense. Google says the model can handle legal and financial knowledge work as well as software tasks. These are Google’s descriptions of intended capabilities, not proof of performance across every organization’s work.

Google lists a 1-million-token output limit, compared with 64,000 tokens in previous Gemini models. The announcement specifies an output limit; it does not establish a 1-million-token context window. [Google]
Who can use Gemini 4 Argon now?
Initial access is limited to trusted cyber defenders participating in Fairwind. Google says it is also engaged in a U.S. government voluntary process for pre-release model access, while gathering feedback from early testers and expanding availability gradually. The company’s next intended audience is developers, enterprises and consumers, starting with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers. The announcement provides no expansion date, public signup route or waitlist. [Google]
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
Fairwind is a controlled cybersecurity program, not a general consumer launch. Google’s earlier program description says participating organizations are expected to limit access to internal cybersecurity, incident-response or penetration-testing teams and to use protections such as multifactor authentication. It describes participants as Google Cloud customers, government agencies and cybersecurity partners. [Google]
What can Argon do for cybersecurity?
Google says Argon can autonomously find, validate and patch critical software vulnerabilities. The company says Wiz is using the model through its Scan for Good initiative, and cites an early demonstration in which Argon uncovered a critical vulnerability in healthcare software. These are Google’s descriptions of its deployment and example; the announcement does not provide an independent audit of the result. [Google]

- Google Pixel 10a is a durable, everyday phone with more[1]; snap brilliant photography on a simple, powerful camera, get 30+ hours out of a full charge[2], and do more with helpful AI like Gemini[3]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Pixel 10a is sleek and durable, with a super smooth finish, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 7i display, and IP68 water and dust protection[4]
- The Actua display with 3,000-nit peak brightness shows up clear as day, even in direct sunlight[5]
- Plan, create, and get more done with help from Gemini, your built-in AI assistant[3]; have it screen spam calls while you focus[6]; chat with Gemini to brainstorm your meal plan[7], or bring your ideas to life with Nano Banana[8]
Google says trusted defenders and its own internal teams will receive Argon without cyber guardrails. That access condition is central to understanding the launch: the model’s initial cyber capabilities are being provided in a restricted setting rather than released for unrestricted use.

Safeguards Google says it uses
Google describes work in four areas: reducing misuse, defending against indirect prompt injection, monitoring for misalignment and hardening sandboxed test environments. It says internal and external red teams tested these safeguards, but the announcement does not publish a complete test report. These are the company’s safety claims, not an independent certification. [Google]
What do the benchmark results show?
Google reports results across coding, enterprise work, video understanding and vulnerability remediation. The figures below are company-reported evaluations, not evidence on their own that Argon will deliver the same results on a particular team’s workload. [Google]
| Evaluation | Reported result | What Google says it measures |
|---|---|---|
| DeepSWE v1.1 | 77.9% | Long-horizon software engineering |
| AutomationBench | 51.3%; Google says Argon ranked first | Enterprise task automation |
| LVBench | 91.7%; Google describes it as state of the art | Long-video understanding |
| CWE-bench v1 | 68%; Google says Argon tied for first | Vulnerability remediation |
InfoWorld’s comparison shows why no single score settles which model is best. It reports Argon at 68.9% on Vals Index versus 67.0% for Claude Opus 5.5, and 77.9% versus 74.2% on DeepSWE v1.1. But on PostTrainBench for machine-learning engineering, InfoWorld reports 45.3% for Argon and 49.3% for Claude Opus 5.5. These comparisons are InfoWorld’s reporting, not figures to attribute to Google’s launch post. [InfoWorld]

InfoWorld quotes analyst Pareekh Jain cautioning that benchmark scores are hints rather than proof of real-world fit. His buying advice is: “The key metric is not cost per token, but the cost per successful business outcome.” [InfoWorld]
What does Gemini 4 Argon cost?
Google lists the following API token rates. The company calls the lower rates introductory and says they will change after an unspecified introductory period; it has not announced when. [Google]
Best Value
- Google Pixel 7 is powered by Google Tensor G2; it’s faster, more efficient, and more secure, with the best photo and video quality yet on Pixel[1].Other camera description:Front,Rear.Bluetooth Version 5.2 with dual antennas for enhanced quality and connection.

| Rate | Input tokens | Output tokens |
|---|---|---|
| Introductory pricing | $2 per million | $10 per million |
| After introductory period | $4 per million | $20 per million |
Cached input tokens are priced 95% below the input rate, according to Google. The announcement does not establish how long the introductory rates will last. For a real budget, estimate input, output and cached-token volumes using your own workload, and account for the later listed rates rather than assuming the introductory pricing will continue.
How should an organization evaluate Argon?
For teams that eventually gain access, compare models on representative work rather than headline benchmarks alone. InfoWorld, relaying Jain’s buying advice, recommends including migration and integration costs in the evaluation. A practical test should cover:
- Task success and correctness on the organization’s actual work, including how often outputs need human correction.
- Reliability across long, multi-step workflows, not just single prompts.
- Latency and total cost for completed tasks, including integration and migration expenses.
- Privacy, security and governance controls appropriate to the organization’s data and systems.
- Availability and the effort required to connect the model to existing tools and processes.
- Switching costs and the cost per successful outcome, rather than token price in isolation.
These are practical evaluation considerations, not a formal standard. Benchmark results may not be directly comparable when tasks or evaluation methods differ. [InfoWorld]
