How to choose between Essential, Premium, and Ultimate
Choose Essential for occasional cloud play
Essential is the entry option if your main need is online console multiplayer and access to its listed catalog. Its 5 cloud hours per month suit limited streaming rather than frequent play away from the console.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Choose Premium for more catalog and cloud time
Premium raises the listed cloud allowance to 10 hours per month and offers a larger catalog than Essential. It may suit players who do not need Xbox-published games on launch day: Xbox says those games join within 12 months of launch.

- MODERNIZED DESIGN — Experience the modernized design of the XBOX Wireless Controller with sculpted surfaces and updated geometry that enhances comfort and control during long gaming sessions.
- PRECISION PERFORMANCE — Stay on target with a hybrid D-pad and textured grips on triggers, bumpers, and back case for improved accuracy and handling.
- SHARE BUTTON: Seamlessly capture and share content such as screenshots, recordings, and more with the new Share button.
- VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY — Connect via USB-C for plug-and-play on console and PC, or quickly pair and switch between supported devices with XBOX Wireless and Bluetooth support.
- BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
Choose Ultimate for day-one releases and the most listed cloud time
Ultimate is the plan to consider if day-one releases, its listed EA Play, Fortnite Crew, or Ubisoft+ Classics benefits, or 15 cloud hours per month matter to you. Xbox also describes it as offering the best streaming quality, including up to 1440p on supported titles and devices. The US comparison lists it at $22.99 per month, so weigh those features against the current price rather than assuming the larger catalog makes it better value for everyone.
Choose PC Game Pass for PC—not as your cloud plan
PC Game Pass is centered on PC play. Xbox’s US overview lists day-one PC titles, 300+ PC games, and EA Play, but says cloud gaming is not included. Do not select it expecting to stream games through Xbox Cloud Gaming.

What to check before paying
- Price and offer eligibility: Xbox’s US page displays Premium at $14.99 per month after a first-14-days-for-$1 offer. That promotion may be limited, and prices or offers can change; check the current comparison and checkout total.
- Your actual games: Search for the titles you intend to play and verify their availability for your plan, region, and platform. Xbox says catalog titles and availability vary over time.
- Release timing: If playing Xbox-published games on launch day is important, Premium’s stated window is within 12 months of launch; Ultimate is the option Xbox lists with day-one releases.
- Cloud allowance: Compare the listed monthly hours with how often you expect to stream: 5 for Essential, 10 for Premium, and 15 for Ultimate on Xbox’s US Cloud Gaming page.
- Region: This comparison is US-focused. Plan features, prices, and availability can differ elsewhere; consult the Xbox page for your market.
What you need to start cloud gaming
Xbox lists a supported device, compatible controller, and high-speed internet connection as Cloud Gaming readiness considerations. Device and regional support apply, and controller compatibility depends on the device you plan to use. Check Xbox’s Cloud Gaming page and confirm a controller works with your specific device before buying one; an additional controller is an optional setup choice, not a universal requirement.
