There is an important distinction: Marvel’s Wolverine is already a released, single-player PlayStation 5 game centered on Logan—not a team-based game concept. The roster below answers which X-Men would work best alongside Wolverine in a hypothetical team-focused game.

What makes a strong Wolverine-led roster?
Wolverine’s claws, close-range combat and heightened senses give a team game a natural anchor. The best additions should expand what a mission can do without taking the focus away from Logan. Four useful tests are:

- Combat contrast: Does the character offer a distinct tactical option rather than another version of Wolverine’s close-quarters fighting?
- Story connection: Can the character create meaningful loyalty, conflict or emotional stakes for Logan?
- Readable teamwork: Is it clear how the character helps during a mission with Wolverine?
- Value beyond combat: Can the character contribute to planning, infiltration, investigation or character scenes?
These are design criteria, not a published developer rubric. They build on the released game’s Wolverine-centered melee, stealth and heightened-senses gameplay, alongside its emphasis on an emotional story. PlayStation’s game page describes the title as a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure.

Why these four work together
As a group, the four provide leadership, psychic and emotional stakes, broad-scale power, and frontline strength around a close-combat protagonist. That creates a team with recognizable jobs while leaving Wolverine at its center. Jean and Cyclops are especially useful for relationship-driven choices; Storm can challenge Logan’s instincts from a position of authority, while Colossus gives him a steady teammate and physical counterweight.
Optional characters for a different kind of story
Mystique for infiltration and mistrust
Mystique is a strong addition to a covert, deception-focused story. PlayStation’s guide describes Raven Darkhölme as a polymorph and operative. That makes her a natural source of infiltration missions and uneasy alliances, but the guide does not say she is a playable ally. PlayStation’s character guide

Sabretooth as a rival or conditional ally
Victor Creed has a direct personal connection to Wolverine: PlayStation’s guide says he fought alongside Logan in Team X before their relationship turned hostile. That history makes Sabretooth a compelling combat foil or temporary partner, but a less convincing choice for a reliable, permanent X-Men teammate. PlayStation’s character guide

Which roster size fits the game?
For a classic team adventure
Keep the playable or mission-supporting core focused on Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm and Colossus. This is the clearest choice if the aim is to pair Logan with a recognizable X-Men team while giving each member a distinct contribution.

For a personal, covert story
Keep Cyclops and Storm in supporting leadership roles, center the missions on Logan and Jean, and make Mystique a shifting ally whose agenda is not always clear. Sabretooth works best as a recurring rival or temporary partner rather than an uncomplicated team member.
Both configurations are design judgments, not confirmed plans from Insomniac Games or Marvel.

How this differs from the released Marvel’s Wolverine
Sony announced that Marvel’s Wolverine launched worldwide exclusively on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026. PlayStation describes it as a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure and says it is not open world. Its official character guide names Jean Grey, Mystique, Sabretooth and Omega Red among its story characters; an appearance in the guide does not mean a character is playable.
