The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Warp is no longer an obvious choice to leave just because you use Windows or Linux, or because you assume ordinary terminal use requires a paid plan. Its official downloads cover macOS, Windows, and Linux, and its billing FAQ describes a free plan with core terminal features. The stronger reasons to choose another terminal are about workflow: whether you want Warp’s integrated AI workspace, a lighter terminal to pair with your own tools, or a configuration model that suits you better.
Two familiar reasons to leave Warp are outdated
“Warp doesn’t support Windows or Linux”
That is no longer accurate. Warp’s Downloads page lists macOS, Windows, and Linux, including Windows 10/11 installers and packages for several Linux distributions. Platform availability does not guarantee that every device or workflow is trouble-free, so check Warp’s current known issues and the requirements for your distribution before switching on compatibility grounds.

“You have to pay to use Warp as a terminal”
Warp’s billing FAQ describes a Free plan that includes core terminal features and says individuals can use Warp independently without billing. AI allowances and paid-plan limits can change, so consult the current pricing page for those details instead of relying on an old quota. The free-plan claim is about core terminal use, not a promise that every AI feature or allowance is unlimited.

#1 Best Overall
- ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT DESIGN: The mobile standing desk promotes a healthier workstyle by allowing quick transitions between sitting and standing. The gas spring lift smoothly adjusts the height from 28.3in to 44in, supporting better posture and reducing neck and back strain during long working hours. This portable desk improves daily comfort and productivity across different environments.
- SUPERIOR STABILITY AND DURABILITY: The rolling desk adjustable height model stands out with its sturdy H shaped steel base and reinforced structure, providing stability even at maximum extension. The waterproof and scratch resistant MDF desktop ensures long lasting use, while the retractable keyboard tray and hook create organized storage for accessories. This unique design differentiates the desk from standard folding table or rolling podium options on the market.
- ERGONOMIC AND FUNCTIONAL DESIGN: The portable standing desk offers a spacious 25.6 x 17.7in surface to accommodate a laptop, monitor, or books. A dedicated slot holds phones and tablets, while the 23.6 x 11.8in keyboard tray supports a full size keyboard and mouse. The thoughtful structure allows the small standing desk to serve as a side table, study cart, or computer desk with keyboard tray in living rooms, bedrooms, and offices.
- EASY MOBILITY WITH LOCKABLE WHEELS: The adjustable rolling desk includes four caster wheels that allow smooth movement between rooms. The lockable function secures the desk in place when needed, creating flexibility for use as a rolling laptop desk, classroom furniture, or teacher standing desk. The compact rolling table design makes the desk on wheels easy to move, while maintaining stability during presentations or study sessions.
- EASY OPERATION AND LOW MAINTENANCE: The sit stand desk is operated with a simple hand lever that activates the gas spring for smooth upward adjustment, while gentle pressure lowers the surface. The mobile desk workstation requires minimal maintenance, as the MDF board is waterproof, scratch resistant, and easy to clean with a damp cloth. This reliable raising desk minimizes user effort and ensures long term durability without complex upkeep.
Choose by workflow, not by a speed ranking
Warp is an integrated, agent-oriented workspace rather than only a command prompt. A Thoughtworks Technology Radar assessment from April 2026 describes its block-based output, suggestions, notebook features, Markdown rendering, file tree, direct file opening, and multi-pane workflow for combining a coding agent, shell, and file view.
That breadth is useful if you want terminal work and AI-assisted tasks in one environment. If you prefer a simpler terminal and already have tools for AI or coding assistance, a composable alternative may fit better. Thoughtworks describes Ghostty as a potential fit for teams that want a lightweight, composable terminal and bring their own AI tooling. That is an editorial fit assessment, not a performance benchmark.

| Terminal | Platforms listed | Configuration model listed | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ghostty | macOS, Linux | Key/value text file | A lighter, composable terminal for people bringing their own AI tools |
| WezTerm | macOS, Linux, Windows, BSD | Lua | One terminal across several operating systems, with scripting-friendly configuration |
| Alacritty | macOS, Linux, Windows, BSD | TOML | A configurable terminal without a bundled agent-workspace approach |
| kitty | macOS, Linux, BSD | Project comparison does not identify a configuration model | Users interested in kitty’s distinct terminal feature set |
| iTerm2 | macOS | Settings | Mac users looking for a feature-rich terminal and a supported migration path |
The comparison does not establish a universal performance winner. Treat platform and feature listings as a shortlist, then check the project’s own documentation for the specific protocols, shell integrations, or workflows you rely on.
Which alternative should you choose?
Choose Ghostty for a lighter, composable setup
Ghostty is the clearest fit if you want a terminal that does not bundle Warp’s broader agent-oriented workspace and prefer to bring your own AI tooling. That distinction is about product philosophy, not evidence that Ghostty is faster. Its listed platforms are macOS and Linux.
Choose WezTerm for Lua configuration across platforms
WezTerm is worth considering if you use macOS, Linux, or Windows and want configuration in Lua. It is also listed for BSD. This makes it a natural candidate when keeping a common terminal setup across different operating systems matters more than having Warp’s integrated workspace.

Choose Alacritty for a TOML-configured terminal
Alacritty is listed for macOS, Linux, Windows, and BSD, with TOML as its configuration format. Consider it if you want a configurable terminal rather than a bundled agent workspace. The comparison establishes those platform and configuration details; it does not support a claim that Alacritty is universally faster or better.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Choose kitty for its feature set and BSD support
kitty is listed for macOS, Linux, and BSD. Its feature set may appeal if you already know which of its capabilities you need, but verify compatibility with the protocols and workflow you use rather than assuming every terminal feature works everywhere.
Choose iTerm2 if you are on macOS
iTerm2 is the macOS-only option in the comparison. It is a feature-rich alternative for Mac users, and Warp documents an iTerm2 importer that can transfer selected themes, fonts, keybindings, and hotkey windows. This can make a move easier, but it is not a promise of complete one-to-one settings parity.

Check privacy requirements before choosing on AI
Warp’s billing FAQ says model providers commit not to train on customer-generated data processed through Warp services and to delete inputs and outputs after the relevant generation within a fixed period. It also documents individual Zero Data Retention (ZDR) controls: disabling “Help Improve Warp” in Settings > Privacy enables full ZDR, according to Warp. Business and Enterprise administrators can enforce ZDR organization-wide.
Warp also describes bring-your-own-key support for OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google, and custom endpoints for OpenAI-compatible inference. Availability and enterprise restrictions vary by plan and organization size. These are vendor-described controls and commitments, not an independent assessment of whether a particular organization meets its compliance requirements. If your requirement is that prompts remain entirely on your device, verify the end-to-end data path: a no-training commitment does not by itself mean no data leaves the device.

Before migrating, list the keybindings, shell integration, fonts, themes, and session habits that are part of your daily workflow. Configuration formats differ: WezTerm uses Lua, Alacritty uses TOML, and Ghostty uses a key/value text file in the cited comparison, while iTerm2 uses settings. Do not assume one terminal’s configuration can be copied directly into another.
For macOS users moving from iTerm2, Warp’s migration guide explains its importer for selected themes, fonts, keybindings, and hotkey windows. For other moves, check the destination terminal’s documentation and test important shortcuts and shell integrations before relying on the new setup for daily work.
