Which one should you get?
Choose the standard Streaming Stick for an HD TV
The standard model tops out at 1080p, so it is a sensible match for an HD-only television. It will not provide 4K playback on a 4K television; for that, choose one of the two 4K models.
Choose Streaming Stick Plus for standard 4K HDR
The Plus supports 4K and HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG. It is the straightforward choice if your television supports 4K and those HDR formats, and you do not need Dolby Vision.

Choose Streaming Stick 4K for Dolby Vision or a challenging Wi-Fi location
Roku lists Dolby Vision and a long-range Wi-Fi receiver for this model. Those are the clearest reasons to pay more than you would for the Plus. Roku positions its Wi-Fi design for TVs farther from the router; that is manufacturer guidance, not an independent throughput test.
Check your TV and connection before choosing
- Resolution: You need a compatible 4K TV to benefit from either 4K stick.
- HDR format: Match the stick to the formats your TV supports. Dolby Vision is the differentiator to look for on the Streaming Stick 4K.
- HDMI: Roku specifies a compatible 4K TV with an HDMI input supporting HDCP 2.2 for the Plus. Roku Plus specifications
- Content: A 4K stick alone does not make every show or movie play in 4K or HDR; the content and TV must also support the format.
- Wi-Fi placement: If the TV is far from the router, the 4K model’s long-range receiver may be relevant, but the product information does not establish a specific real-world speed advantage.
- Price: Compare the live prices of all three. Roku listings have shown changing promotions, so a listed discount or price may not persist.
What the Plus model’s specifications say
Roku lists the Plus as supporting up to 2160p at 60 frames per second (3840 × 2160). Its product page also gives dual-band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi, built-in HDMI, USB-C power, and a voice remote with TV power and volume controls. These details apply to the Plus model, not automatically to the other two.

Roku gives the Plus’s dimensions as 3.7 × 0.80 × 0.45 inches and its weight as 0.90 ounces (26.0 g). It lists typical power consumption of approximately 2.5 W while streaming 4K UHD video. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Roku Plus specifications

What these specifications do not tell you
Roku’s product pages establish the models’ advertised formats and features, but they do not establish comparative results for startup time, app responsiveness, or real-world Wi-Fi throughput. Do not assume the 4K model will be faster in every home; the documented distinction is its long-range Wi-Fi design and Dolby Vision support.
