For ordinary ESP32 room-occupancy or still-person detection, the HLK-LD2410C is a sensible starting point: the reviewed specifications list UART and GPIO, a 5 V supply, and 3.3 V logic. Choose a different module if you need target-position tracking or breathing and heartbeat measurements; those are distinct sensing tasks, not interchangeable features.
Choose by the job, not just the radar specification
| Project need | Sensor path | What the documentation says | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Room occupancy or still-person presence | HLK-LD2410C | The comparison page lists 24 GHz FMCW, UART and GPIO, a 5 V supply, 3.3 V logic, 5 m maximum sensing distance, ±60° detection angle, and 0.75 m distance gates. | These are figures from LD2410.com, not a manufacturer datasheet; check the exact revision and pinout before wiring. LD2410.com |
| Breathing/heartbeat sensing and static presence | Seeed MR60BHA2 with XIAO ESP32C6 | Seeed lists breathing and heartbeat detection to 1.5 m and static presence to 6 m. | Seeed recommends respiratory and heart-rate sensing for sleep scenarios. This is a specialized kit, not a general target-tracking replacement. Seeed MR60BHA2 guide |
| Target position or multi-target tracking | HLK-LD2450 | A secondary reference describes UART-based ESP32 integration and target tracking. | Primary manufacturer specifications and exact operating limits were not established in the reviewed material. Verify official documentation and supported firmware before designing around it. LD2450 reference |
| Breathing/heartbeat sensing with a bare UART radar module | Seeed MR60BHA1 | Seeed’s datasheet lists a nominal 60 GHz operating frequency, UART, 4.6–6 V operation, and 0.4–2 m thoracic detection distance. | Its stated operating current is 150 mA, so plan an adequate supply. The datasheet’s measurement accuracy figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. Seeed MR60BHA1 datasheet |
Why the LD2410C is a practical ESP32 starting point
The LD2410C’s UART interface fits a common microcontroller integration pattern, and ESP32 platforms provide UART peripherals. Its distance gates can help distinguish presence at different distances, but they are not a two-dimensional position map. Espressif documents ESP32 UART functionality; the pins available on a particular development board depend on that board. Espressif UART documentation

The published LD2410 family figures include about 80 mA average draw for the 5 V model, alongside the range and angle shown above. The source does not establish how those figures translate to every module revision or installation, so treat them as reference specifications rather than a guarantee for a particular room or mounting setup. Choose MR60BHA2 for sleep-oriented vital-sign sensing
Seeed lists the MR60BHA2’s breathing and heartbeat detection distance as up to 1.5 m, with static-presence detection up to 6 m. Its guide cautions that vital-sign sensing may be significantly less accurate when someone is seated at a desk or exercising, and recommends using the respiratory and heart-rate functions during sleep scenarios. These are vendor instructions and specifications, not independent medical-performance findings. Seeed MR60BHA2 guide

- ★24GHz ISM band, the farthest sensing distance is up to 5 meters, the detection angle is large, and the coverage range can reach ± 60 degrees.
- ★Support GPIO and UART output, plug and play, flexible application to different intelligent scenarios and terminal products.
- ★Multi-level intelligent parameter adjustment can be realized through Bluetooth or serial port to meet the needs of scene changes, visual debugging and configuration tools.
- ★Accurate identification within the interval, support sensing range division, shielding interference outside the interval.
- ★Being sensitive to the moving human body, this product can be sensitive to the static, inching, and sitting and lying human body that cannot be recognized by the traditional scheme.
The guide describes a XIAO ESP32C6 kit, lists a 5 V/1 A input, and provides Arduino library examples. It also warns that modifying radar firmware carries a risk of bricking the device. Seeed MR60BHA2 setup information
Consider MR60BHA1 when you need a separate UART radar module
The MR60BHA1 datasheet lists 90% respiratory measurement accuracy and 85% heartbeat measurement accuracy. Those are manufacturer-stated figures; the available documentation does not independently verify performance in a particular room, for a specific person, or under a given installation. Its guide identifies GP2 as occupied/unoccupied and GP1 as active/stationary, and says the module is intended for one living object; additional people or animals in range can affect monitoring results. - LD2410C is a highly sensitive 24GHz human presence detection module. It operates using FMCW (Frequency-Modulated Continuous Wave) technology to detect human targets within the configured space
- By integrating radar signal processing with advanced human detection algorithms, the module enables highly sensitive presence monitoring while also calculating target distance and other auxiliary parameters
- Unlike conventional solutions, this LD2410C sensor can detect not only moving human bodies but also static, micro-motion, and seated/lying postures, ensuring superior detection capabilities
- With real-time detection and a fast response time, the LD2410C module offers a maximum sensing range of 5 meters and a distance resolution of 0.75 meters, ensuring reliable performance
- Featuring both GPIO and UART interfaces for plug-and-play operation, the module supports flexible deployment across various smart scenarios and end devices
Investigate LD2450 for position tracking, but verify first
The available reference points to UART-based ESP32 integration and target tracking, but does not establish the module’s exact tracking limits or primary manufacturer specifications. Do not assume specific target counts, coordinates, voltage, or protocol details until you have checked the official documentation for the exact module and firmware you plan to use. LD2450 reference

Check the module and wiring before connecting it
- Identify the exact LD2410 variant. The original and B versions use the pin order OUT, TX, RX, GND, VCC; the C version starts TX, RX, OUT, GND, VCC. Confirm the markings and documentation for the board in hand before soldering. LD2410 pinout reference
- Verify supply and logic levels. The LD2410C comparison page states 5 V supply and 3.3 V UART/GPIO logic. Do not infer compatibility for a different revision from the family name alone; check that unit’s documentation. LD2410.com
- Connect UART correctly. Use a common ground; cross sensor TX to ESP32 RX and, when bidirectional configuration is needed, sensor RX to ESP32 TX. Confirm the actual UART pins exposed or configured on your ESP32 board. Espressif UART documentation
- Allow for the module’s power needs. MR60BHA1 is specified for 4.6–6 V and 150 mA operating current. The MR60BHA2 kit guide specifies a 5 V/1 A input; follow the kit’s instructions rather than assuming another board’s supply is sufficient. MR60BHA1 datasheet MR60BHA2 guide
How to interpret range and accuracy figures
Published maximum distances and accuracy values are specifications, not evidence that a sensor will achieve the same result in every enclosure, mounting direction, room, or firmware configuration. The reviewed sources do not provide a controlled comparative test that identifies a universal winner. Select for the sensing task, then validate the intended placement and tuning in your own build.
