SlashGear’s August 18, 2026 roundup named 12 Makita tools that passed its under-$200 price screen, along with minimum customer-rating thresholds. The picks span cordless, corded and pneumatic tools, but their value depends on the exact task, the kit contents and the price you can get now—not just the roundup’s label. Its listed prices are historical, so confirm the exact SKU and current package before buying.

How SlashGear chose its 12 picks

SlashGear said each tool had to cost less than $200, average at least four stars and have at least 150 customer ratings when the article was written. Those are the roundup’s selection rules, not results from a controlled durability test or a comparison across brands. The prices below are figures reported at publication on August 18, 2026; they are not verified current offers. Read the SlashGear roundup.

Choose by task, not by the headline

For drywall and finish work

The XSF03Z is the cordless specialist for driving drywall screws, but its $149 publication price was for the tool without a battery. The CT225SYX is a broader start if you also need drilling and impact driving: it includes two batteries and a charger, though its $199 cited price leaves little room under the roundup’s threshold. The AF506 is for a different setup altogether: it drives brads and needs an air supply, so its value depends on already owning compatible pneumatic equipment.

For cutting and demolition

The two jigsaws suit different buying constraints. The XVJ03Z is cordless, but the roundup says its battery and charger are separate purchases; the JV0600K is corded and includes a case. For compact sheet or trim cuts, the SH02R1 kit has a small 3⅜-inch blade and a stated maximum depth of 1 inch at 90 degrees. The XRJ01Z is the demolition-oriented reciprocating saw in this group, but its discussed listing was battery-free. Match the tool to material and cut capacity, and check that the required blade is included or budget for one.

  • Impact Driver with variable speed (0-2,900 RPM and 0-3,500 IPM) delivers up to 1,460 in. Lbs. Of Max Torque
  • Impact Driver features a compact design at only 5-3/8" long and weighs only 2.8 lbs. With battery for reduced operator fatigue
  • Ergonomically designed handles with rubberized soft grips provide increased comfort

For yard cleanup

The XRU23Z trimmer’s up-to-one-hour runtime is conditional, not a guaranteed work session; SlashGear says it varies with conditions and battery. The XBU06Z blower has quantified airflow and air speed, while its up-to-16-minute estimate is specifically Makita’s estimate at highest speed with a separate 6Ah battery. Consider how much area you need to cover and whether you already have the required battery before treating either cordless tool’s listed price as the full cost.

For grinding and sanding

The 9557NB grinder and BO5030K sander are corded, so neither adds a cordless battery-platform purchase. The grinder takes a 4½-inch wheel; the sander has a 5-inch pad and includes an abrasive disc, dust bag and case. Confirm the consumable size and suitability for your material and task before buying replacement wheels or discs.

Check the complete cost and compatibility

Makita’s CXT, LXT and XGT are distinct product families. The roundup does not establish detailed battery interchangeability, so do not assume a battery fits across families—or even across particular tools—without checking Makita’s compatibility information for the exact models. Several cordless listings are tool-only, while the SH02R1, FD09R1 and CT225SYX are described as kits with batteries and chargers. A bare-tool price can therefore understate what a new user must spend to put it to work.

  • Verify the exact model suffix and whether the listing is a bare tool or a kit.
  • Check whether battery, charger, case, bits, blades or other task-specific consumables are included.
  • For pneumatic tools, confirm that your air compressor and fittings can support the stated pressure range.
  • Compare the live price and package contents at the seller you plan to use; discounts, inventory and bundles can change.

What the under-$200 screen can—and cannot—tell you

The screen identifies candidates that met SlashGear’s stated budget and customer-rating criteria at the time of its article. It does not show that every tool is the best choice for every workload, establish long-term reliability or guarantee that the same price and rating count remain available. A sensible buy is the exact model that meets your capacity needs, works with equipment you own or a kit you are willing to pay for, and is currently priced acceptably.
