1. Back up your files and check compatibility before upgrading
Apple recommends backing up files before installing a macOS upgrade. If you use an external drive for that backup, Apple’s instructions do not prescribe a particular brand, model, interface, or capacity.

To check for an available update, open Apple menu > System Settings > General > Software Update. Apple says Software Update offers upgrades compatible with your Mac, but you should also check your exact model against its macOS 27 compatibility list rather than relying on a broad chip or product-family description. 2. Adjust Liquid Glass if it affects readability
Apple describes Liquid Glass refinements aimed at readability and contrast, with a slider that ranges from ultraclear to fully tinted. Treat the slider as a personal appearance and legibility control: try the available range and choose the look that makes interface elements comfortable for you. Apple does not identify one position as best for every user.
3. Review parental controls if a child uses the Mac
Parents and guardians should inspect the controls that match the child’s account and household rules. Apple describes several options for managing access and reviewing use:

- Time Allowances: Set limits across categories such as Entertainment, Games, and Social Media.
- Schedules: Set when apps are available.
- Usage and access controls: Review a child’s Mac use and adjust access.
- Ask to Browse: Let a child request permission to visit a new website.
- Communication Safety: Add interventions for shared images and videos involving gore or violence, as well as protections involving nudity.
These tools can help families manage access, but their presence does not guarantee a child’s safety or replace an adult’s judgment.
4. Explore Siri AI only if its capabilities suit your workflow
Apple says Siri AI can answer open-ended questions, search personal context such as photos, email, and notes, take actions in apps, and respond to screenshots through Visual Intelligence. If those capabilities are useful to you, review the Siri and Apple Intelligence controls and decide whether you want to use them. The available Apple product information does not establish the control-by-control privacy paths, so check the settings on your installed system rather than assuming a particular configuration.

Apple says Siri AI is rolling out in English and usage limits may apply. Feature availability can therefore depend on rollout conditions; do not assume every capability is available to every user immediately after installation.

Some app features are worth exploring when they address a specific need, but Apple’s descriptions include rollout qualifications. Its product page describes topic-based tab groups and page-change alerts in Safari. It also labels suggestions in Messages and Mail as “Coming in English,” and describes Passwords alerts for weak or compromised passwords and updates on a user’s behalf as “Coming in a future software update.” Those labels mean you should check what is actually available on your Mac rather than expect every announced feature on installation day.
