Integra’s current DRX home-theater range runs from the 7.2-channel DRX-2.4 through the 11.4-channel DRX-8.4. The DTM-7.4 is a stereo receiver for a different kind of system.
Which Integra receiver should you buy?
Start with the number of speakers you intend to use, then check which receiver can process and power that layout. Next, compare the HDMI ports against your sources and display, followed by calibration, zones, and installation requirements. Integra’s specifications establish feature differences, but they do not establish which model is the best value at current retail prices or which performs best in independent comparative tests.

| Model | Official channel designation | Best fit to consider |
|---|---|---|
| DRX-2.4 | 7.2-channel | A system that does not need the higher channel counts of the other DRX models. Check its input layout against your video sources and system plan. |
| DRX-3.4 | 9.2-channel | A 9.2-channel installation where Dirac Live, HDMI video and gaming features, and custom-integration support meet the requirements. |
| DRX-5.4 | 9.2-channel | A system that benefits from processing up to 7.2.4, 11.2-channel pre-outs, zone features, and its documented HDMI capabilities. |
| DRX-8.4 | 11.4-channel | A more extensive installation that calls for 11.4 processing, six 40Gbps HDMI 2.1 inputs, XLR connectivity, and included Dirac Live Premium. |
Integra lists all four models in its AV receiver lineup. The specifications below reflect Integra’s published descriptions; verify the exact configuration and terms for your region and intended installation.
How many speakers can an Integra receiver power or process?
DRX-2.4: 7.2-channel
The DRX-2.4 is the listed lower-channel-count DRX option. Choose it only after matching its channel capacity and available connections to the speaker layout you actually plan to install.

DRX-3.4 and DRX-5.4: 9.2-channel
Both are designated 9.2-channel receivers. The DRX-5.4 has a specific expansion distinction: it supports processing for up to 7.2.4 and provides 11.2-channel pre-outs, so an installation can use external amplification for additional channels. Integra also describes 5.2.4 and 7.2.2 Dolby Atmos and DTS:X playback for this model.
DRX-8.4: 11.4-channel
The DRX-8.4 is designated 11.4-channel and supports processing up to 7.2.4. Its product specifications state 11-channel amplification at 150 watts per channel under Integra’s stated FTC conditions: 8 ohms, 20 Hz–2 kHz, 0.08% THD, with two channels driven. That figure is meaningful only with those conditions attached; it should not be compared directly with power ratings measured under different conditions. Integra also specifies two independent subwoofer channels.

Channel counts describe different capabilities, so check both amplification and processing when a system will use external power amplifiers. Integra’s FAQ says only the DRX-8.4 supports bi-amping both front and center speakers; the DRX-5.4 and lower do not bi-amp the center.

What is the difference between the DRX-3.4 and DRX-5.4?
Both models are 9.2-channel receivers, but their published feature sets are not identical. The DRX-5.4’s 7.2.4 processing capacity and 11.2-channel pre-outs are useful when you want more processing channels than the receiver can amplify internally. Integra also documents separate Zone 2 speaker outputs on the DRX-5.4. The DRX-3.4 is a 9.2-channel choice with Dirac Live, HDMI video and gaming features, and custom-integration support; assess its documented connections against the actual installation rather than assuming it has every DRX-5.4 feature.

For either model, check the specific source connections, display requirements, and planned room layout before buying. A shared channel designation does not mean every input, output, or expansion option is the same.
Does the DRX-5.4 support 4K/120 and Dolby Atmos?
Integra documents HDMI 2.1 features for the DRX-5.4, including 4K/120 passthrough, alongside 8K/60 and HDR and gaming features. Capabilities differ by input: Integra specifies the front HDMI input up to 4K/60, so do not assume every port supports the same signal. The DRX-5.4 supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X playback in the layouts Integra describes, including 5.2.4 and 7.2.2. Check the receiver’s port plan against each source and the display’s resolution and refresh-rate needs.

DRX-8.4 HDMI connections
Integra lists six 40Gbps HDMI 2.1 inputs on the DRX-8.4, capable of 8K/60 and 4K/120, with seven total HDMI inputs and three outputs. If you have several high-bandwidth sources or multiple displays, count the devices and outputs you will use rather than relying only on the headline format support.

How should room correction and calibration affect the choice?
The DRX-8.4 includes a Dirac Live Premium license covering 20 Hz–20 kHz. Integra describes basic calibration using the included wired microphone and its free mobile app. Advanced setup can use Dirac’s PC or Mac application and an optional USB microphone; Integra’s specification sheet recommends the UMIK-1 for that route. An extra microphone is therefore not a requirement for basic setup.

- 5.2.2-channel Dolby Atmos and DTS:X playback
- 8K with HDMI 2.1 40Gbps (3 ins)
- THX Select Certification
- Discrete Zone 2 Audio and Video
Dirac Live Bass Control is listed as an optional upgrade for the DRX-8.4. Integra’s firmware announcement describes Bass Control as a paid add-on for the DRX-5.4 while stating that it is installed on the DRX-8.4; firmware features can vary by model. Check the current model-specific firmware and regional or app conditions before relying on a particular upgrade.
What else should you check before choosing?
- HDMI sources and displays: Match the number and type of receiver inputs and outputs to consoles, players, set-top devices, and displays. Confirm which particular inputs support the resolution and refresh rate you need.
- External amplification: If you plan to power channels with separate amplifiers, compare pre-out availability and processing capacity with the speaker layout.
- Zones: If you need audio in another area, verify the model’s zone outputs and the connection method needed for that room.
- Control and installation: Integra documents custom-integration features, including IP control and web setup, across relevant product pages. Confirm that the chosen model fits the installer’s control system, rack, and monitoring requirements.
- Rack mounting: Integra identifies rack-mount kits as optional accessories for the product line. Match the kit to the receiver; do not assume it is included.
- Seller and warranty: Integra’s warranty page lists five years of parts-and-labor coverage for the DRX-2.4, DRX-3.4, DRX-5.4, and DRX-8.4 sold from June 1, 2023 onward under the page’s conditions. Integra says purchases from unauthorized internet dealers do not have a valid Integra warranty. Check dealer authorization and applicable terms for your purchase.
Official specifications to verify before purchase
Use Integra’s receiver lineup to confirm the model, then review the model-specific pages and documentation for exact ports, channel configuration, and installation features. For the DRX-8.4, Integra lists product features and a specification sheet. The manufacturer’s DRX-5.4 product page details its channel, zone, and HDMI features. Read the warranty terms and Integra FAQ as well, since seller eligibility and specialized functions can affect the decision.
