The best home office keyboard depends on how you type and what your desk needs: the Logitech MX Keys S is a strong general-purpose choice for laptop-style typing, while mechanical, split, and slim alternatives suit different priorities. These five picks are a curated shortlist, not a universal ranking; layouts, variants, availability, and prices can vary by market.
Five home office keyboards to consider
1. Logitech MX Keys S: best general-purpose low-profile pick
The MX Keys S is a full-size wireless keyboard with low-profile scissor keys, a familiar feel for people used to laptop keyboards, and backlighting. It connects over Bluetooth or Logitech’s Logi Bolt USB receiver and can switch between up to three devices, according to Logitech’s product information. Logitech estimates up to 10 days of battery life per charge with predefined settings, or up to five months with backlighting off; actual battery life varies with use and computing conditions.

RTINGS recommends it for most office users, particularly those accustomed to laptop typing, in its office keyboard guide. Choose it if you want a full-size layout, low-profile keys, illumination, and multi-device switching. It is not a split ergonomic keyboard.
2. Keychron K5 Max: best low-profile mechanical alternative
The K5 Max is a full-size, low-profile mechanical keyboard and RTINGS’ mid-range office recommendation in its office guide. Mechanical switches feel different from the scissor keys on the MX Keys S and generally have more key travel; the switch variant also affects the experience. Treat it as an option for people who prefer mechanical typing, not as an automatically quieter or more comfortable choice.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Logitech ERGO K860: best split-layout option
The ERGO K860 has a curved split keyframe, full-size layout with number pad, integrated wrist rest, and tilt legs adjustable to 0°, -4°, and -7°, according to Logitech. Its split shape changes hand position and takes up a broad footprint, so it is most relevant if you specifically want to try a split keyboard rather than simply replace a conventional one.
Logitech says the design was developed and tested using ergonomist criteria. It also reports that, in its proprietary study of 52 US office professionals fielded in October 2019, a majority found they could type effectively after two days. That is a manufacturer-reported adaptation finding, not clinical evidence that the keyboard prevents or treats pain.

4. Keychron K10 QMK Wireless Mechanical Keyboard Version 2: full-size mechanical option to investigate
Keychron identifies the K10 Version 2 as a wireless mechanical model with 104 keys in its product listing. It offers a conventional full-size mechanical format rather than a low-profile design. The exact switch and layout variant matter; verify the selected model’s operating-system layout and feature list before buying. The available evidence here does not establish a detailed independent comparative review or current regional price.

RTINGS describes the K950 as similar to the MX Keys S in features and more affordable, while noting that it lacks backlighting and uses lower-quality materials, in its office keyboard guide. It is worth considering if a slim design matters more to you than illuminated keys. Prices change, so check current local listings before treating it as the cheaper choice.

How to choose the right type for your desk
Decide whether you need a number pad
A full-size keyboard includes a number pad, which can be useful for frequent spreadsheet or numeric entry. It also occupies more desk width. If you rarely use the pad, a more compact layout may leave room for the mouse closer to your body. RTINGS identifies size and layout as important office-keyboard choices in its comparison guide.
Choose by key feel, not by a universal hierarchy
The MX Keys S uses scissor keys with a low-profile, laptop-like feel. The K5 Max is low-profile mechanical, while the K10 Version 2 is a conventional full-size mechanical option. These are different typing experiences; neither mechanical nor scissor keys are inherently the better choice for every person. If switch choice or programmable behavior matters, confirm capabilities for the exact model and variant rather than assuming a whole product family supports the same features. Keychron’s low-profile keyboard guide notes that supported series differ in keymap customization.

Consider shape as well as height
A straight, low-profile keyboard and a curved split keyboard place the hands differently. The ERGO K860 combines a split form, integrated wrist rest, and adjustable tilt, but those design details do not guarantee comfort or a health benefit. Microsoft’s healthy-computing guide describes split, curved, and straight keyboard designs and notes that compact keyboards without a 10-key pad can be easier to pack.

If you regularly move between a computer, tablet, or other device, the MX Keys S can pair with up to three devices and offers Bluetooth or Logi Bolt connectivity, as specified by Logitech. Check whether the connection type you need is supported and whether a receiver is included with the precise regional listing. Backlighting is useful in a dim workspace but not essential for everyone; the K950 is the slim alternative in this shortlist without it.
